I guess because some would consider it a pretty sappy, corny attempt at a Beatles style ballad... Not that i agree with that notion, but i think it's understandable if people don't like RHCP, i love that song myself, though i prefer the more funky side of RHCP.

The worst song they ever made was probably Dosed. Or rather it was a great song after the first 3 times you heard it, but after that . . . it sounded really annoying.
Under the Bridge is awesome. It's probably one of their most popular songs

I saw them live earlier this month and they didn't even play 'Under the Bridge'.

But they did play two of my favourite songs by them 'Nobody Weird Like Me' (they don't usually play stuff from Mother's Milk nowadays) and 'I Could Have Lied' possibly the best song on Blood.

I liked them until I heard Dani California.
Now I have lost all respect.
Because it's a complete rip-off of Last Dance With Mary Jane by Tom Petty.

No, it's not a rip off. That comparison is bull****... The chord progresssion isn't even the same... it's a similar common one often used in rock.

The drums are different. The bass is different. The tempo is different (slowed down by the radio hosts).

The lyrical content is completely different. Dani California is about Dani California. Last Dance With Mary Jane is about marijuana.

I've written a whole page on this if you want to see it... but this is just a short summary.

Petty is still pending law-suit.
And to me, maybe I'm deaf, but they sound almost identicle.
I think Mary Jane doubles as a story about a girl and about marijuana...
