Death- Zero Tolerance
Death- The Philosopher
Necrophagist- Diminished to B
Arch Enemy- Bury Me an Angel

All I can think of at the moment. I'm sure there's more, but that's all that sticks out at the moment.

The solo in War Pigs by Sabbath is just wonderful.

that said, generally, i see guitar solos are a waste of time in a song because it distracts me from the whole atmosphere of the song, and I always end up thinking "fine, you can play guitar well - now play something that SOUNDS good rather than an indecipherable 10 notes a second". Maybe you guitarists can find MORE VALUE in them though.

Blasphemy! Sometimes a good guitar solo can actually salvage a song.

True. A dull or lagging song can be JUICED UP real nice by a good solo. But I say the reverse is much more often the case, with me at least.

tears in the rain -joe satriani
texas flood - srv

.. although they are both songs, they are really more like long solos.

Metallica - Orion. Not my favorite solo of all time (c'mon, how can you choose ONE?), but definitely would be on the top of the list.

Frank Zappa-Sexual Harrassment In The Workplace. He is one seriously underated guitar player.

Yeah, but when a guitar solo makes the song suck it is because it is by a band that sucks at guitar anyway.
