Soilwork - best metal band of the 00's, in my opinion
Nevermore - they keep getting heavier and thrashier with each release
early Iced Earth - they started out thrash before turning into power metal. their live album Alive in Athens is especially good
Mnemic - kinda like a mix between soilwork and fear factory
At the Gates - slaughter of the soul
the Haunted - former members of At the Gates
Machine Head - Burn My Eyes - a classic album
Sepultura
Meshuggah - complex, very brutal
Strapping Young Lad - most insane metal ever

Blind Guardian
Lordi
Pain of Salvation
Sonata Arctica

And, being from Michigan, DEFINATELY check out Miles Beyond from Flint and Rhyoma from Waterford. I saw Miles Beyond at a concert last year and talked to the guys after the concert, they are really good. Rhyoma is a friends band but they are also five amazing musicians. They are death metal though.

"WHAT THE **** WAS THAT?! I'M BEING COMPLETELY RATIONAL! I'M NOT YELLING!" I dunno why, but some of Devin's lyrics crack me up.

Ah well, to each his own.

classic Candlemass is much like Black Sabbath, which is why I recommend them.

I can't put my finger on it but I just really don't like them.....maybe it's because the music sounds all muffled or something...I personally just don't find them that talented...I don't like the singer....the drummer seems good but the music doesn't sound like they use seperation....doesn't all go well together in my opinion...

I much prefered ST.VITUS DANCE who were around at the same time. I like the music, but vocally CANDLEMASS sucked. I seen them supporting NUCLEAR ASSAULT and the lead singer wore amonk's habit and just looked an idiot!
