Porcupine Tree mix the best elements of psychedelic rock, progressive rock, and even pop at times (just listen to Piano Lessons). They manage to craft these very deep albums that move along very smoothly yet vary stylistically from song to song.

I'd highly recommend that everyone gets a copy of Sky Moves Sideways and maybe Signify.

It wasn't Porcupine Tree then. In Absentia is my favorite from them, Blackest Eyes is on it, but I like all of the other songs better. Its a bit more accessible than their early stuff and its not quite as prog rock as their later stuff. They have a vibe similar to Pink Floyd and later King Crimson... A little Yes and Genesis influence too. But overall they're pretty original and they're quite different from most of the other prog bands nowadays like Spocks Beard and The Flower Kings.

You will still hate them though.

Or he might be one of those people that don't have the attention span to listen to great pieces like Arriving Somewhere. That song has Mikael Akerfeldt in it and he is amazing.

MM is a favorite among those who can't get into bands who use more than the exact same format for every song.

They're more repetitive than The Rolling Stones, AC/DC and The Ramones combined.
