Someone please explain the appeal of RATM?
I seriously don't understand how the single worst band in music history is so loved. Please give me some insight.
|
Thier simplicity-DRUMS BASS VOICE GUITAR. Their music is so tight, it almost sounds live. Each band member is extremely good at what they do. Their music has always had a socio-political leaning, and this never changed until they split up, despite their massive success. Every album is well produced but still sounds raw. They also made a refreshing change to the endless thrash bands that sounded like each other-a great way to get a big riff fix!

I have a better question, what is the appeal of your existance?

It's loud , angsty , has swearing in it and has a guitarist that the muso nerds can worship so in essence they cover all the bases if you're some spotty teenager.

"Der his chordless solos on dem Aeduiioslav sungs are tooo teknikal fer me" How dense can you get? |

Besides, those thrash bands were actually good. |

Thrash bands-NILE maybe? what a ****ing joke they are. A comparison with Limp Bizkit is pathetic-you just described them in your post above. I hate GREEN DAY but I really can't be bothered to start a thread on my hatred for them, so if you don't like RATM why bother talking about it? |
Get off your pretentious "I hate posers" high horse, proggie.
I didn't want to go into detail why I like Rage. I just do. I understand that you're not one for bands like Rage and Zep. And you prefer more skilled and refined groups like Rush and PT. But Rage do have a massive appeal for people who may not be sastified with rehashed prog (you) or tiresome Kinks ripoff melodies (Urban), aside from not sounding even remotely like Limp Bizkit in anyway, they don't share the same fans with them either. Most RAGE fans are not 12 year old posers who think songs like "Down with the Sickness" and "Bodies" are super hardcore, which is what you seem to think. Rage fans I know range from punk fans to metalheads to proggies and even indie kids. They're just a good band. People like their sound for a lot of reasons. Morello, Commerford and Delp are all good musicians, Morello has an especially original and appealing guitar style, his style is not very technical, but he has proven himself to be very skilled, he dosen't use any fancy technology to achieve those effects either. Just one crappy f*cking effects pedal is all he uses, and if you think a cheap fuzz box will automatically make you capable of crafting solos like Take the Power Back and Settle for Nothing then you got another thing coming. He designs and develops his own effects and tones, he's quite the soundsmith and overall he's a musician who knows exactly what he wants, I don't care if you hate his music, he's still worthy of some respect. As for Zack. Well obviously not a great singer in any technical sense of the world, but he has an awesome delivery. He has a very original sounding voice too. Overall RATM should by no means be put in the same category as Nu Metal bands like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park, even though they do deserve some of the blame for influencing these bands. Overall I think they are the only band ever to truly make the whole Metal/Funk/Rap crossover concept work. |

I bet you were a teen when you first heard Motley Crue, and your taste hasn't matured since then.
See? It's fun to be condescending. |

That was suposed to be ironic.
And theres no loss. This technically isn't even an argument. Your only counterpoints are "well RATM sucks" and I'm simply trying to explain why some people have a different opinion from yours. |

It is ironic because.
A. I am a proggie. B. I make long rants about Indie fans being annoying hipster posers. |

And quit with the insults |

Also, Geddy Lee is an adult with the mind of a 15 year old kid who spends every hour of the day playing WoW. ;) |

im 15 and ive never even listened to them >.>

People don't have to have reasons for liking something. God forbid people have opinions that defy your logic of what is good music and what isn't.

Anyway, Rage is a great band. Nice riffery, guitar effects can get annoying, awesome basslines, nice funky drumming and pure rage. |

I like some early RATM, but I found them way too samey after a couple of albums. I've got Evil Empire, S/T and Battle of Los Angeles. I don't like the last one much at all (apart from a couple of songs). And everytime I hear an Audioslave song start up, I'm always waiting for Zachs voice to come in with an Awwwwwww Come On!
|
Whats wrong with the Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww come ons?
I like the Awwwwwwwwwwwwww come ons, personally. |
Man you're picky. I like them too, I was just saying that I expect to hear his voice rather than Cornells because the music just sounds like RATM.
|
I'm not picky.
Hell, I'm easy to poke fun of because I like EVERYTHING. |

RATM are just... fun. That's all there is to it, as far as I'm concerned.

"He wasn't atually pissed off about something when he did that scream, I can sooooooooooo tell, and believe me if he wasnt actually mad, it ruins the whole performance, omg he sux, wheres the pashion people? I think I'll listen to Geddy Lee sing songs about Mark Twain fiction over a synthesizer. Go Geddy go, hit those high notes"
Also Chris Rock was funny. |

No. But that may not matter to someone who can't stand his voice.
I have no problem with his voice myself, I just think his voice is more grating than Zacks by comparison. |
