A lot of Norwegian Death Metal bands are more technical and original then RATM. And DB is not NDM they are technically in a Black Metal subgenre (I don't listen to them much so I wouldn't know.) RATM kills its songs for me. "Killing in the Name of" starts off well, but turns into crap. |

No I can't be bothered. I was listening to death metal before you were born-DEATH-SCREAM BLOODY GORE (1987), and the genre has'nt really changed in 20 years, a lot of ****e, a lot of indifferent bands and the odd half decent band rising out of the mire. NILE are doing NOTHING different to what the UK hardcore scene circa 1988 was doing except they have long hair and growl about non political/social subjects. It has nothing to do with their actual sound, but it's just not original. This sort of sound was beong banged out years ago-ENT/GENITAL DEFORMITIES/CEREBRAL FIX/BOLTHROWER/NAPALM DEATH/UNSEEN TERROR etc etc.

I'm actually with Jackhammer on this one.
Stuff like that sounded great at the time because it was totally new & different to what anybody had done before. I remember hearing Napalm Death for the first time around 88/89 and being blown away by it. But by only a couple of years later the scene was overrun by bands who were just playing fast & shouting and added no originality to it.It's as if they were just copying how it sounded and missing the point that it was about pushing boundaries , which is one of the reasons I stopped listening to that kind of stuff in the mid 90s , it just got boring.

Urban-we have agreement! I think we may be in the minority on this one, but totally correct of course!

If you replaced RATM with STP, I would still have a hard time buying that. And how does more skill equate to making better music again? Quote:

Well you tell me. Do you like to hear something not original? I hope not. Would you give more credit to a band who wasn't technical at all or a band who was extremely technical?
Do not take this beyond the point. Quote:

What are you taking about?. Theres like five different chord progressions in that song.
Besides, it's not like every song has to be in 11/4 time. Repetitive riffs are a rock music staple going from The Kinks all the way down to AC/DC to The White Stripes. Repetitive isn't always bad. Last edited by boo boo; 06-06-2007 at 07:26 PM. |

Inzuka-u have Led Zep underneath your profile. So Black Dog is not repetitive... It's all swings and roundabouts my man..
