Wow, when you said mix Death Metal with Jazz the first thing that popped into my head was Mr. Bungle's "Carry Stress in the Jaw." Because that's exactly what that song does. I don't have much of an appreciation for Death Metal either, but that song is in my opinion completely amazing.

He might think they're awful, but he shouldn't doubt their originality. They have a unique sound to them as in my post above. They go at whatever speed suits their music - not always fast, but usually fast. It isn't really any more done to death than going at medium speed or slow speed. Thousands of bands have done each. I didn't like Nile at first because it just sounded like a mess of noise. I find that when I listen to them, I have to change my speaker setup because there's quite a lot going on at once. But even if I didn't like them now, I wouldn't doubt their originality. Karl Sander's solo album is pretty good - just beware that it would appeal more to ambient/post-rock/prog fans than metal fans.

----Check out Baroness, Ulver, Lair Of The Minotaur, and Genghis Tron.----
Thanks for those will check them out. ----Karl Sander's solo album is pretty good - just beware that it would appeal more to ambient/post-rock/prog fans than metal fans.----- Lol-I listen to everything from Ulrich Schnauss to Agnostic Front, so will definitely check it out. Do you know what's ****ed up about this though? I recently tried an album by a band called LYMPHATIC PHLEGM which is a right old racket and I liked it! I do not understand my own tastes sometimes, AND this is a RATM thread lol. Seltzer-I'm going to give NILE another chance, what album is the best? the one I got hold of was about 1999-can't remember the name but the production was terrible, couple that with a dodgy Youtube vid I watched and that was that!

I for one do not like RATM due to the shameless guitar wank, I like boring riffs and I will issue no apology. I am not saying that everyone should like boring three chord riffs like I do but this is my reason why I don't like RATM.
I would buy all of their albums and listen to them religiously if they could just make Chris Cornell go away |

Hearing RATM on TV this morning by accident it suddenly struck me that they sound exactly like how the Beastie Boys would have sounded had they decided to form a sh*t metal band.

RATM, great band. One of the bands I got into in my early teens that I still like. Their cover of In My Eyes is awesome, one of the few covers of that song I've heard that brought some originality to the song, and still resonates the message and intensity of Minor Threat.
