Hardcore punk is a subgenre of punk rock that originated in the United States in the late 1970s. It emerged as many of the first-wave punk bands disbanded or moved onto different genres, and as many of the newer punk musicians focused on music with faster tempos, louder volume and harder bass levels.[1] The hardcore punk sound is generally thicker, heavier, and faster than 1970s-style punk rock, and it is sometimes characterized by short, loud[1], and passionate songs about serious topics such as government, capitalism, anarchism, war and the punk subculture itself.[2][3]

With roots in blues-rock and psychedelic rock, the bands that created heavy metal developed a thick, heavy, guitar-and-drums-centered sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion and fast guitar solos. The All Music Guide states that "of all rock & roll's myriad forms, heavy metal is the most extreme in terms of volume, machismo, and theatricality."[2]

Similarities, no?
Pretty much what Starving Artless said.

Just because two seperate genres decided to speed up two different existing genres doesn't mean anything. The two styles developed independently of each other, as anyone can tell by listening to them.

Metalcore is hardcore influenced by metal. Crossover is punk influenced by metal.

---Metalcore is hardcore influenced by metal.---

Hardcore is punk influenced by metal, so metalcore is metal influenced by metal?

I've already posted in that thread. First page I believe.

The point is that hardcore is not influenced by metal, thus metalcore isn't that excessive of a subgenre. There wouldn't be metalcore (or crossover) if hardcore was already influenced by metal.

No, the point is MHDTV is a goof for thinking Dream Theater is a big influence on TFOT.

Think about it this way:
If hardcore did a lot of the same thing to punk that metal did to rock, and metal came before hardcore, then doesn't it make sense that metal would influence hardcore? Anyway, Dream Theater is also a prog band with influence there to.

With your logic...every band in the world that plays progressive music is an influence on every other band that plays progressive music??
I think not. FAIL.
