Trying to find good death metal bands to listen to. i don't know too many, just trying to expand my metal wisdom. if you can tell me yours, or if you know of any good ones.

Ones I've liked so far:

Cannibal Corpse
Dying Fetus
Iniquity

Voice_of_the_Soul12,13,01 04-23-2007 12:54 PM

Kreator is thrash, not death.

You've got aa pretty good list there already.

Add;

Necrophagist
Death
Nile
Deicide

And if you're into melo death;

Amon Amarth
Dark Tranquility
Arch Enemy
In Flames
At the Gates (never heard anything from them, but they are supposednly good, and they did take part in pioneering the melodic death metal genre)
Opeth

Opeth is Progressive Death Metal, but either way they should be on that list. Also add the Doom/Death bands:

Anathema
My Dying Bride
Novembers Doom.

Other bands that should be on that list:

Behemoth
Therion (Early)
Orphaned Land
Paradise Lost (Early)

And I can't think of any more at the moment.

ow. yeah gwar and deicide are black metal. is that right.

Voice_of_the_Soul12,13,01 04-27-2007 12:53 AM

Well, technically, Deicide is BLACKENED death metal.

I don't know how Gwar got mentioned. Not death metal or even black metal for that matter.

How? I've not heard any black metal elements in any of their music.

Most of Deicide's music is anti-christian, which is one of black metals main characteristics. Musically, they are death metal.

Inuzuka Skysword 04-28-2007 07:23 AM

M. Manson's music is anti-christian, but it is not black metal so I don't think there would be a exception.

Voice_of_the_Soul12,13,01 04-28-2007 09:46 AM

His music has some anti-christian references, but overall he is far from being black metal in that respect.

Black metal's routes are in bands like Venom and Holy Moses who's lyrics didn't go for or against any religion. Considering the origins, if lyrics were a defining trait of black (which they aren't) , than black metal themes would be about eating cheetos and pussy while drinking beer. The bible would suggest that such behave is fine as long as you're married.

He is right.

Nathan Explosion 05-08-2007 06:54 PM

That depends on if you are drinking the beer for the purpose of getting drunk.

enemyat_thesix 05-08-2007 11:42 PM

Psycroptic makes me laugh out loud; I'm glad no one said Suffocation because they are terrible.

Inuzuka Skysword 05-09-2007 04:32 PM

Suffocation is okay.

Honestly, stop talking about Death Metal.

I don't go into your ***got "deathcore" threads and talk ****, half the time, I offer decently constructive criticism.

People who know what the **** they are talking about recognize Sceptor Of The Ancients as one of the most influential/groundbreaking records ever released and Matthew Chalk as one of the most innovative vocalists.

And ****ing lol@ not liking Suffocation when half the stuff you listen to BLATANTLY rips them off.

Nathan Explosion 05-12-2007 07:55 PM

If I'm not mistaken, didn't Mike Smith of Suffocation semi-invent the blastbeat?

Muzak 05-12-2007 08:11 PM

well they were the first Brutal Death Metal band, I know that. I thought blast beats were made alot longer before Suffocation by hardcore punk bands and grindcore.

Nathan Explosion 05-12-2007 08:29 PM

He mentioned on the Roadrunner United dvd that he invented something called the "Smithblast". Maybe its a little different, im not sure.

you like deathcore <3

Where have you been? You never call :(

riseagainstrocks 05-13-2007 07:26 PM

1. I like All Shall Perish and half the new Faceless album. LEAVE ME ALONE!

2. It's called a Suffoblast (after the band obviously) and it's really not that cool.

3. Mick Harris of Napalm Death invented and coined the term blastbeat.

4. I never call because you never put out >:[

The blast beat actually first appeared in the 60s by a few jazz drummers. I couldn't tell you who actually invented it but Chick Webb used it a few times.

that is correct sir, the first band to my knowledge who brought the blast beat to the metal scene was D.R.I

WE GET IT! YOU'RE DIVERSE!

Stop waving it like a pass card in every arguement. You know very well the bands I'm talking about. All your chugga chugga bree bree stuff. The "suffoblast" is what half those guys play.

enemyat_thesix 05-21-2007 10:50 PM

huh i haven't been here in weeks
oh right rar's still bashing me. what-ev.

Letcha 05-23-2007 11:03 AM

Someone mentioned In Flames. They used to be one of my all-time favorite bands. If you're gonna check out any of their stuff, be sure to avoid the last 3 (or was it 4) albums... Check out Whoracle, Jester Race, Colony, Clayman, Lunar Strain, etc

enemyat_thesix 05-23-2007 04:04 PM

i realize that deathcore requires almost no technicality or relative talent to play. i also realize that there are a thousand deathcore clones on myspace that all sound alike; and i despise them, because they actually think they're doing something musically. however, every once in awhile an outfit will come along that i enjoy, such as All Shall Perish, Misericordiam, or Underneath the Gun.

to conclude, deathcore =

chugga chugga thud thud splash splash bree
chugga chugga reet reet tatatata bree

except ASP: in my opinion they actually know how to play guitar.

the end.

eddie1 05-26-2007 01:55 PM

deicide for me.

Nathan Explosion 05-26-2007 02:22 PM

Has anyone heard As Blood Runs Black? I dunno if you would call them death metal but its pretty brutal stuff.

I never understood that. Are we hearing something different?
