Killswitch Engage, although not death metal, is worth checking out I think.

If I haven't said it yet, check out Neaera.

"is made ofwin?" IS this English?

Clownbaby 09-06-2007 02:11 PM

Is Gojira considered death metal? Cuz definitely them if that's so...

Embracethedeath 10-27-2008 12:50 PM

Death Metal

Death Metal is one of my favorite genres of music. I listen to pretty much every subgenre of death metal also: brutal death, melodeath, melodic death metal, tech-death, etc.

Favorite Bands include:
Carnage
Dismember
Nihilist
Entombed
Death
Pentacle
Ignivomous
Kronos
Necrovation
Slugathor
Lykathea Aflame
Pavor
Crown of Thorns
Godgory
Evocation
The Crown
Fleshcrawl
Vehemence
Defeated Sanity
Suffocation
Morpheus Descends
Immolation
Incantation......much much more.

Demonoid 10-27-2008 05:01 PM

^
Pretty good list :D (I'll admit, I haven't listened to like half those bands though)
Lykathea Aflame, Death, Dismember, Entombed, Necrovation...Yeah, definitely some death metal that i don't mind re-listening.(I tend to get bored of the genre pretty quick after a couple of listens here and there...unless It's something different)

jackhammer 10-27-2008 05:02 PM

No Obituary though :(

Embracethedeath 10-27-2008 06:41 PM

Old school obituary is tight. I couldn't put every dm band on that list, a lot of really good ones are missing.

MegaHassan 10-27-2008 08:57 PM

Dismember, Entombed, Hypocrisy, Obituary, Deicide, Cryptopsy, Gorgasm and ... Devourment!

Meph1986 10-27-2008 11:01 PM

I'm slowly getting into death metal. It was only a matter of time. :D

MegaHassan 10-28-2008 06:19 AM

Krabathor, Ripping Corpse, Disincarnate and Baphomet are horribly under rated.

Embracethedeath 10-28-2008 02:35 PM

Krabathor kinda sucks but those other three bands are awesome. Especially Disincarnate.

More underrated death metal bands:
Deathevokation
Dead Congregation
Arghoslent(well, i guess there not too well known)
Crown of Thorns
Pentacle
Ignivomous
Slugathor
Necrovation
A Mind Confused
Godgory
Evocation
Intestine Baalism
Old School Kataklysm
Defeated Sanity
Disgorge(US)
Exhumed
The Chasm
Angelcorpse
Insect Warfare
DARK FAITH
Cenotaph(Tur)
Cenotaph(Mex)
Early Sentenced

some of those are really well known bands in some metal circles, and not so well known in others.

MegaHassan 10-29-2008 03:00 AM

I've never understood the big deal about Deathevokation, they sound nothing like old school swedish death metal. When I think of swedish DM, I think of Hypocrisy, Grave, Dismember etc. Deathevokation sounds like Hypocrisy's third album; which was a melodeath snoozefest

Embracethedeath 10-29-2008 02:58 PM

I absolutely love Deathevokation. They definitely aren't pure Swedish old school dm, but the influence is definitely there. And there's not an ounce of melodeath in The Chalice of Ages, so i really don't know where that came from.

jackhammer 10-29-2008 03:09 PM

^^
Maybe you could do me a compilation? I like DM but have'nt kept up with the genre for a long while.

Voice_of_the_Soul12,13,01 10-29-2008 03:22 PM

I've been getting heavily into Kataklysm. Burnt all their LPs from a friend except for their latest one.

For sure, but what does that consist of? Is that just a bunch of songs that i recommend to you?
Also, what kinda dm do you or did you like? If you dont wanna specific subgenre of dm just tell me

Put a comp together use winrar/zip to compress it and then upload to the web. like so:

http://www.musicbanter.com/announcem...pilations.html

Sub genres are one of my most hated terms lol I like the more technical end TBH. My faves are (admittedly) old school:

Death
Obituary etc

Embracethedeath 10-29-2008 05:22 PM

Its uploading now. Am i allowed to post it right here?

jackhammer 10-29-2008 05:56 PM

Yeah. Compilations are allowed as long as they are your own.

Embracethedeath 10-29-2008 05:57 PM

haha i need to make fifteen posts first. one sec

Embracethedeath 10-29-2008 05:57 PM

That didn't work. lemme try again

Intestine Baalism

Arghoslent is pretty cool, despite their racial leanings. Intestine Baalism is nice - weird mix of melodeath and brutality.

To be honest, I haven't listened to much metal in a while, so I'm behind on dm.

MegaHassan 10-30-2008 06:33 AM

THeres tonnes of melody in Chalice of Ages. I don't know why an unmelodic album like The Red In The Sky Is Ours is called melodeath and an obvious melody filled album like Chalice of Ages isn't called melodic death. Just baffles me.

Embracethedeath 10-30-2008 06:21 PM

Hmmm...Well let me be a little clearer. I believe, like many other metalheads, that melodeath and melodic death metal are different genres of music. Before you start calling me the dumbest kid alive, let me explain myself. Melodeath is metal that's riffing style is firmly based in melody. In fact, melodeath has almost no death metal elements to it besides the vocals. So, in short, melodeath is melodic metal with harsh vocals. The easiest examples of this are bands like COB, Norther, Kalmah, In Flames, Dark Tranquility, and so on. Melodic death metal is first and foremost death metal that incorporates melody. Examples include bands like Crown of Thorns, Unanimated, At the Gates(first album only) and so on. I stated that The Chalice of Ages has no melodeath in it, but it sure does have melody. Do you see what im trying to get at?

Also, The Red in the Sky is Ours most definitely has melody in it. Maybe it doesn't have as much melody as Chalice of Ages(I wouldn't know, haha, there is no melody meter), but melody is still there. Both albums are awesome though.

Sorry for the double post. Yeah I love Arghoslent. Most people put them off right away due to their racist lyrics, but most of them don't understand that it isn't "stupid" racism(if there is such a thing). It's more of a historical attitude that is trying to be portrayed instead of "I HATE BLACKS RAWWRRRR." While it is indeed still racist, it is still intelligent. If that makes any sense

enemyat_thesix 10-30-2008 07:32 PM

where the hell is rar

MegaHassan 10-31-2008 02:08 AM

Well, I understand your points Embracethedeath.

As for chalice of ages, I'll break the tracks up.

Rites of desecration is based entirely on melody. Not melodeath, but melodic death; according to your definition (which I agree with btw)

Acherontic Epitaph's rif***e is pretty melodic. Not as melodic as Rites of desecration, but its melodic in an "epic" manner.

The monument is a cool song and the only melody is in the solo and the tremolo parts, which is okay since Dismember did that too. Not the specific type of melody that I associate with melodic death

Embers of a dying world is loaded with melodic riffs. so is Chalice of ages

I dont have the other songs from the album. I'll listen to the rest of it later

Embracethedeath 10-31-2008 05:18 AM

Yeah, tbh, it really could be considered a melodic death metal album. Funny you mention Dismember. Their Like An Everflowing Stream album will always be considered pure dm, but the melody on that album is undeniable. It could easily be considered a melodic death metal album also. I dont really know what it is with genre tags but they seem to be pretty inaccurate most of the time

MegaHassan 10-31-2008 06:26 AM

I agree with the innacurate genre tags comment. Its all down to personal preference. :)

Embracethedeath 11-01-2008 05:29 AM

So who here likes gorguts? People seem to have an assortment of views on them. For the most part, i think their first two albums are pure gold, while Obscura and From Wisdom to Hate are both very different but just as good. it seems that most people either like their first two only or their last two only. Very awesome band though

Pillowmint 11-08-2008 08:42 AM

Pure death:
Carnifex
Through The Eyes of the Dead
Something Different:
Deadlock

Voice_of_the_Soul12,13,01 11-08-2008 12:15 PM

HAHAHA! Carnifex and Through the Eyes of the Dead are not "Pure" death metal. While Through the Eyes of the Dead's "Malice" release was pretty death metallish, Carnifex are typical deathcore. I like them and everything, but hahaha. No, they are not death metal.

Pillowmint 11-08-2008 04:11 PM

im sorry, i don't listen to much death metal. How is deathcore different from death metal?

Don't even get started on this. You will get a 4 page lesson on the various ways that 'Chugga Chugga' becomes a brand new genre.

The only difference between the two is that deathcore has the aforementioned chugging.

MegaHassan 11-09-2008 06:55 AM

And pathetic vocals and a lot of breakdowns.

Necrophagia's Harvest Ritual is awesome.
