I think I'd have to say harold perrineau.

Mastodon is doing more for the genre than people realize. Even though i like Dailor, Neil Peart still kicks ass after all of these years.

Dr_Rez 11-22-2007 12:09 AM

Neil Pert is one of my favorites. he is 100 % original incredibly technical, inventive, and creative. Not only that but i love the band Rush.

Old_Tyme_yungn 11-22-2007 12:47 AM

i love rush too. they just keep kickin', ya know. they are gonna be put in that category with the likes of the stones, dylan, BB king, and any other band that doesn't ever stop.

Brann Dailor is prob the best drummer in the world at the moment.
Some of my all time favs are John Bonham, Jimmy Chamberlain, Keith Moon, Nicko McBrain, Dave Lombardo, Fenriz, Danny Carey and Dave Grohl

No, Mastodon has an awful vocalist, he can't sing. His "scream" if you can call it that is terribly generic and sounds like tons of other metal vocalists i've heard and the lyrics? "The hero of the gods the crossing of the threshold the Belly of the wale refusal of Return" I think the awfulness of that speaks for itself.

Theres nothing special about this band, I don't think their drummer is nearly as good as other drummers in this same genre. I mean this dude can't even touch Joey Jordison and according to metalheads he sucks right?

i know this is an old post but lol @ that. Mastodong > most metal bands by far.

edit: Oh and Zach Hill of Hella > all living drummers.

Most metal bands suck though, so it's not much of an accomplishment on Mastadon's part.

littleknowitall 11-22-2007 03:25 PM

Buddy Rich owns all. o.o

But then I like a lot of the drummers mentioned so far.

Lol Ethan you make some really stupid statements sometimes. That same stab goes for most genres, still doesn't detract from those who make it really good.

Ehhhh maybe so but the ones that are good are damn good. Mastodon is probably the only popular metal band that is any good right now. As far as any metal band......probably estradasphere or ephel duath.

He beats Danny Carey, Dave Lombardo or anyone else you might care to mention by a walk. No-one really touches him.

DISCUSS!!!

Maybe right now... But the greatest drummer who ever lived was Buddy Rich! He could play anything!

Seltzer 11-26-2007 04:48 PM

The best drummer ever is Vinnie Colaiuta. He absolutely blew my mind when I saw him live with Herbie Hanc0ck.

My favourite rock/metal drummers are Martin Lopez, Neil Peart and Danny Carey.

tkpb938 11-26-2007 06:34 PM

6.5/8 time signatures people... Danny Carey can pull off that craziness.

I think i'd go with Neil Peart, but that's just my opinion. Mastodon is really good though. (Linoleum Knife is one of my favorite songs)
