Avantgarde Metal / Experimental Metal.
of course, Avantgarde metal is probably one of the very controversial styles within the metal community. Alot of people not actually accepting its existence.
I'm really into pretty much anything Avantgarde when it comes to music. As long as it has aesthetic quality as well as quality and substance. Only really Avantgarde metal bands I can think of which are 'really' metal are groups like Ephal Duath and the Diablo Swing Orchestra. Symphony X have alot of Avantgarde qualities to them (at least by what I consider Avantgarde) Who here is into Avantgarde metal, and if so, what are some good bands?

Kayo Dot.
also.. The Angelic Process Time of Orchids Nadja ASVA Wolfmangler (but thats getting to doom/drone territory) It all depends really on what you'd class as avant garde.. stuff like Khanate, Neurosis.. even Sunn O))) could potentially fall under the title..

Aarni are pretty damn avant, in the doomy sense. And Volt are a doomy Mr. Bungle.

in my opinion, kayo dot is post-metal, which is an entirely separate entity from experimental/avant-garde metal.
