Brutal/tech Death:

Cannibal Corpse
Nile
Necrophagist
Dying Fetus

Melodic Death (My favorite genre of all);

Dark Tranquility
Amon Amarth
Arch Enemy (With Johan, not Angela)
In Flames (Although I only have STYE, I am eager to get a hold of their old stuff)
Neaera (more metalcore than death metal, probably)
Opeth (Prog death, actually)

Perfect Death Metal; lol

Death

Deathcore;
Black Dahlia Murder
Job for a Cowboy
Elysia
The Red Chord

All I can think of now.

As an elitist prick let me be the first to say that deathcore and melodeath are both lame.

Just recently picked up Beneath The Massacre's "Mechanics of Dysfunction." They sucked live at Summer Slaughter, but that could be attributed to the fact that I was mainly there for Necrophagist, and EVERY -core band there just ended up sounding like each other, mainly due to all the local bands also playing there, and most local bands around the St. Louis Area (Even though we were in Illinois, St. L. was just across the river from Pop's) are either hard rock, pop rock, or metalcore. Guess which one was at Pop's.

Separately, deathcore bands are alright, but they can suck in packs, apparently.

meh, the technical player sounds interesting for a bit but the song writing is pretty boring. I prefer The Faceless for technical Deathcore and Spawn of Possession for technical Brutal Death Metal.

I checked out Winds Of Plague and was pretty disappointed. They are basically a deathcore band with a keyboardist trying to be like Dimmu Borgir. It doesn't work well at all.

I kind of view deathcore bands as good opening acts; just something to get the crowd riled up..... kind of like a pep squad at a rally right before the big game..... I think I said this already, but I don't remember..... anyways, yeah.

Nobody has mentioned OBITUARY shame on you all! i'm not au fait with some of these bands , but I would never class OPETH as Death Metal, they flit from genre to genre. They are fookin awesome however.

Celtic Frost and Bathory are two early protagonists of Death Metal, although their music incorporated many genres of metal. The starting point is generally regarded as SCREAM BLOODY GORE by DEATH.
