I never heard any grind from Carcass. Maybe I've never heard there older stuff, which I'm guessing IS grind.

Nevertheless, even the stuff I was hearing didn't sound very death metal-like. More Thrash, if I remember.

Siege are probably the originators. Actually I'd consider Siege to be the most important metal band of all time while also being the most important punk band at the same time while being the most important jazz band of the 80s.
