Born in the USA about a million times(one of the most slow, irritating, experiences imaginable). Dancing in the Dark about a million times. Born to Run a few times. No interest to get beyond his hits. I've probably passively heard more in my lifetime without thinking of it, as well.

As for being mellow, he's mellow by my standards. Then again, I'm typically conditioned to ultra-frantic music as a personal taste.

As for him being 24, I wasn't saying I didn't like him because I thought he was middle aged. I don't have anything to base hatred of the man on. I just associate his music, possibly unfairly, with the demographic. Maybe it's a tad immature, or close minded, to label his music as "slow and white" but that's usually how it sounds to my ear.

It's too bad that you haven't heard anything from what is easily his best album, Nebraska. Tons of great songs on that album, including "State Trooper" which sounds like early Suicide played on an acoustic guitar.

That's because of who listens to him now. I doubt he had a big middle aged demographic back in the 70s.

And I have to say I'm unclear on why "slow and white" is somehow bad. Sunn0))) are slow and white. Bohren & der Club of Gore are slow and white. That doesn't prevent them from being good.

I think its a perspective thing at this point, because Springsteen may not break out chromatic solo's in the 8va octaves or use 16th notes for the kick drum, but his lyrics can be as heavy and as ruthless as some of the most vicious metal there is. Not to mention the accordion and saxaphone in some of his songs paint a blacker mood than most artists.

And I don't mean to take a dig at metal here, because I like metal, but his heaviness comes from reality which makes it worse. One of my favorites is 4th of July, Asbury Park

"Did you hear the cops finally busted Madame Marie for telling fortunes better than they do, for me this boardwalk life is through, you otta quit this scene too."

What a gut-wrenching way to talk about the dreams of your youth dying to the realities of a miserable adult life of working to the bone.

He's very real and down-to-earth, and some of his songs are quite relaxing and poignant.

I don't really like the boss. He doesn't really sing in a lot of his songs he's really good at screaming and shouting with little to no melody involved with soft rock music playing in the background. It's not really my thing.

I can understand the accusation of being soft rock since, at his worst, that's what he is. But saying his vocals are "screaming and shouting with little to no melody" just makes me think you've never heard him before or something.

I agree. If anything, soft, relaxed vocals and concise melodies are among his trademarks.

The Boss is one of the most polarizing artists on these forums. I hated him for a long time too, but once you have some of the experiences he sings about I think its hard to ignore the power of his work.

The Boss is the best. I dont think there can even be a logical argument. He has so many albums, and they are all amazing. I saw him live, and it was by far the best show I have ever seen.
