No way did Paul Baribeau cover Bruce Springsteen!

This is one artist that I have been forever meaning to plunder the back catalogue of. His most famous stuff over here was his massive Born In The USA album, which is not really indicative of what he is about. I think i may have to delve deeper in the new year to see whether I can dig his stuff.

Bruce is a great example of how singer/songwriters get the shaft. He's a contender for best artist/band of both the 70's and 80's and no one even thinks of that when we talk about what decade wins over others.

Neil Youngs "After the goldrush" might bring him up to rank on just that song alone. Urban once suggested a S/S forum and we chose to use folk as that function but sometimes you can see a real need.

I remember watching a music doc on TV and there was a substansial amount of Springsteen which piqued my interest. He is (rightly) proud of his blue collar roots (equivalent to our working class-which I am!), which made me want to hear more.

Born In The USA is the most misunderstood album ever...The song is a scathing protest against the draft. Not a glorification of the American dream or something like that.

I don't think anyone thinks its a pro-american song. And misunderstood album ever?

Reagan praised him as a patriot for it and I think even used it as his campaign song. I wouldn't call it the most misunderstood album ever though.

2. If at that stage wasn't effected by it, he certainly knew what he was doing. He was the great communicator for a reason. I'm sure he said what he said, but I don't trust him to say what he knew. This is the same man who said "facts are silly things."

Whether or not Reagan was in his right mind, he still disillusioned millions of people to the meaning of the song.
