I recently downloaded their album AWAKE and it is nothing special at all. Very generic. I don't hate it, but it did'nt do much for me either.

New member here... and I am a Godsmack fan, as well as many other genres of music. My favorite band is the White Stripes, and frankly, I like simplicity in music. Godsmack is simple music. Hard driving (albiet simple) power chords with some very good percussion. I think the one thing no one seems to point out is that their drummer is AMAZING. Check out the drum battle between Sully and Shannon on Youtube. It is impressive as all get out. Like them or dislike them, Godsmack is comprised of some very impressive inidividual talents.
I like this resurrection of rock and roll, and Godsmack fits into that category, IMO. |

I like Godsmack, but they definitely fall short to many MANY other bands.

Good points. I think if you saw their live show, you would be more inclined to think they were better.. but that can probably be said about many bands. Remember, back in 98 when they first broke the scene, their sound was pretty harsh, yet fresh. They could use a new sound, and hopefully this delayed layoff they are on will get the creative juices flowing.
There is a local band in my town that plays a decent cover selection, always ending their sets with Metallica. They saw Metallica in Montreal with Godsmack opening for them and they were blown away. They have been trying to put together a Godsmack set, but have found it much harder to play than at first thought. They get huge props from this group of musicians at least. Like I said, they are not my favorites, but I think that they have played a decent role in reviving good ole fashioned rock and roll. |

I just heard on the radio that they had a song called "Cryin' like a Bitch." In fact if I'm quoting the radio spot it was "with their new classic..."
el to the mother****ing oh el. So I had to go read this thing. Quote:
I'm a ****ing hardass and I'll kick your ass? Is this what people listen to before they watch MMA **** or what?

Are there? Name 3.
His premise for a song was fighting a guy...Thats what he sat down and wrote words and music about.

Godsmack is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine, but yeah I have to agree with you Big3, that song is absolute ****e and releasing it as a single was just a label move to attract the meathead audience. Not that it's hard to do considering thick skulled neanderthals make up about 90% of Godsmack's fan base. Don't judge the album on that one song though because there are a few decent tracks on it.
