I typically play a small variety to see how versatile the sound is. Typically some Space Truckin' by Deep Purple, whatever Amebix comes to mind, and something poppy like Green Day. I like a guitar that can handle a lot.

hmmmm...i just play, really. if i intend on buying a guitar that day, i test out how it takes several differet things, i.e. bends, chord work, multiple notes and the overall sound of it. as for songs, i honestly don't care much for playing a bunch of songs really. i guess most of the time i just improvise.

personally i usually just play the A chord. it's not an audition. i'm testing the sound of the instrument or the effect of a pedal. if i'm actually looking to buy the guitar i'll try a few generic techniques then check every fret on every string - yes it's as lame as it sounds. |

Whenever I get the chance I pick up a bass and I play one/few of the following to get a feel for it. Sometimes I just like to improvise.
