Anders Fridén: Does he death grunt?
What would you consider his harsh vocals to be? I always have considered them regular screaming, but I personally have no clue. Either way he isn't that good at either so this isn't a debate thread on how good he is.

Where are you from?

What does that have to do with anything?
|
Just asking.
|
He used to do "death grunts" on Whoracle and The Jester Race, but recently has traded it in for a far more accessible style of screaming. I didn't mind it on Colony and Clayman, but starting with Reroute To Remain it went straight to hell.
Unfortunate because Goliaths Disarm Their Davids is a fantastic song. |
Heck yes it is a good song.....BTW The Jester Race, Whoracle, and Colony were their best albums. I exclude Clayman because it recycled Colony's sound.
Listening to The Jester Race album right now though and I hear no grunting and if it is, it is really high pitched. |
Then please define what you mean by "death grunt".
When I hear it I think of low growls. Not gutterals, but growls. |
I would say their first few albums, he had the death grunt but on later albums, its more of simple harsh vocals than the real death grunt.

Brrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

He does what I like to call "Crying" into the microphone. Even back in Whoracle his "harsh" vocals sounded akin to a nasally 5 year old screaming into a microphone.
Though if you have to validate it with a technical term its just a really weak scream. |

Also death grunts should always come from the gut. |
I beg to differ, more than half of his vocals on Whoracle were the same as on The Jester Race. And his Jester Race vocals were quite good for the style, very full and deep.
