Anyway, if dont you include all the classic Motown bassists like James Jamerson(who would own the list if you did.)the list would go something like this IMO.
1.Flea 2.John Entwhistle 3.Larry Graham 4.Geddy Lee 5.Les Claypool 6.Chris Squire...I can't believe he hasn't been mentioned already. 7.Jack Bruce 8.Bootsy Collins 9.Tony Levin 10.Cliff Burton 11.John Paul Jones 12.Paul Maccartney 13.Phil Lesh 14.Geezer Butler 15.Greg Lake 16.Stu Hamm 17.Jack Casady 18.Steve Harris 19.John Myung 20.Billy Sheenan Honorable mentions to John Wetton, John Deacon, Mike Gordan, Oteil Burbridge, Billy Cox, Mike Watt, Mike Rutherford, Dirk Lance, Roger Waters, Trevor Bolder, Krist Novoselic...I might have commited bass sacrilage with that last one. |

Every time they ask this question, people clamor to be the first to write Vooten or Pastorious. Tonight I will pray that all of you get hit in the face with the sharp end of a rake.
Sting or Paul McCartney.

Though i would put Sting and Novoselic in the same catagory, 2 bassists who from a technical standpoint were not impressive at all and were average at best, but nonetheless they were very creative and made some great lines, neither are really top 50 though, i only mentioned Novoselic because i know that no one else will, i think people dont cut him enough slack, but yeah, i expect to get a lot of flaming for that, not that i care. |
