Lars K Norberg is pretty damn good

Flea of the Chilli Peppers is the best basisst ever.
Hands down.

Few others deserve to be put in the same league and even fewer might be able to outplay him.

I'm not sure about basisst, but I know hes not the best bassist ever. I mean I think hes so hyped half the time just because his bass lines stand out in the rock genre. While its really not better then most funk bassists.

I don't listen to much funk, but some of the stuff i've heard is way better and some of my friends with pretty credible opinions have said that.

Flea is massively overrated.

I would say Alex Katunich(former Incubus) is "better" than flea.

Agreed.

John Entwistle, not really that big a fan of The Who, but he has some great lines. In my opinion he stands out as a better bass player than Townshend does a guitarist.
Jack Bruce, again can't stand 'Cream' but wow, he was amazing.
And, of course John Deacon of 'Queen'. Kinda faded after the band split. 'Another one bites the dust' has to be the most famous bass line ever. The funky playing after May does the solo in 'A kind of magic.' He was cool.

Asie fromt he drums his intrumentals really stand out in most (i wouldn't sy all) of red hot chili peppers songs.

And he might be hyped up half the time but that's like saying chris cornell (audioslave and soundgarden) isn't a great vocalist. he's pretty hyped up at most shows for most of his songs.

being hyped up doesn't take away from the quality of his work or the impact it leaves (if any).

Flea and Jaco Pastorius stand as my favourite bassists ever.

I also like:

Rob Trujillo (Infectious Grooves, Suicidal Tendencies)
Tony Levin (King Crimson, LTE etc)
Steve DiGiorgio (Death, Sadus, Iced Earth, Quo Vadis, Control Denied, Testament)
Les Claypool (Primus etc)
Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)
Geddy Lee (Rush)
Dirk Lance (Incubus)
Marcus Miller
Rainer Landfermann (Pavor)
John Fisher (Fishbone)
John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin)
Victor Wooten
