Is Marty Friedman underrated? Probably not...

Maybe Alen Koljanin from Osmi Putnik?

Had the hard task of taking over from Chris Poland and did it superbly, underrated probably, as he seldom gets mentioned despite being on Megadeth`s best albums.

Which one? Youthanasia? My fav metal album to date - first heard Train of Consequence when I was about 12 - my solo and what got me in to guitar

Youthanasia is a great metal album but usually overlooked in the Megadeth discography, as the group serve up a more straight-forward metal album. It was also the last great album before they indulged in a whole load of badly advised crap sounding albums that started with Cryptic Writings and continued with Risk and finished with The World Needs a Hero. As far as I`m concerned this crap period permantly damaged the credibility of this band.

Robby Krieger- The Doors

I skimmed all 9 pages of this thread and I didn't see him mentioned (unless I missed him). He is criminally underrated. I also agree with Brian May who was mentioned.

Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse. He gets some pretty crazy sounds out of his guitar, especially on earlier stuff like this song:
