Default Question for Black Metal fans

Lately, I have been getting into some Black Metal bands like Dimmu Borgir and Old Man's Child. Some people say they are among the best Black Metal bands out there (though Dimmu Borgir has been sucking of late), whereas others completely bash them and label them as the ****tiest bands ever, next to Cradle of Filth (Yeah, CoF are awful, even I don't like them).

So clear it up for me. Any Dimmu Borgir fans here? Are they good or bad? And please don't say they suck because they sing about Satan. I am no Satanist, but I can enjoy the music without bothering about lyrics.

Thanks.

I like Dimmu Borgir. I don't have a clue what genre they fall into, and I don't particularly care. I just like the music, in part because the singer sounds like a dying frog. I like the big symphonic sound in some of their songs. They aren't amazing musicians or anything, but they've got a powerful sound.

I think they're pretty all right. You also got listen to Satyricon, Gorgoroth, and of course Celtic Frost.

I like them. They make good music, I don't care if they are popular or not.

You should listen to Emperor.

I don't care for stereotypes/kult value etc. I haven't heard much Dimmu Borgir but Mourning Palace is a great song.

And I haven't heard much CoF, but from what I've heard Midian actually seems like a decent album - I've heard the rest suck.

I don't listen to much black metal (I prefer folk/viking), but give these guys a listen:

Tvangeste (similar sound to CoF, but much better)
Arcturus (avant-garde black)
Immortal (At the Heart of Winter is pretty accessible for black metal)
Arcane Necrosis (well I like it)
Emperor (Ihsahn is great)
Drudkh
Burzum (Lost Wisdom [synth version] is one of the most evil songs I've ever heard) - I like Hvis Lyset Tar Oss)
Nifelheim

Then there's black metal which is more viking/folk oriented:

Ulver
Enslaved
Bathory
Windir (pure awesome)
Temnozor
Nokturnal Mortum
Melechesh
Vintersorg (in here for awesomeness)
