Post-Metal | loathsomepete | 8tracks
I made a 12 track guide to some of the post-metal I have accumulated over the years. A lot of names in this thread show up on this list so it's hardly anything new to the more experienced listeners. |

I don't even understand the term of post Metal. Post grundge was used for example when the grundge bubble burst and grundge disentergrated, but post metal? Metal is alive, well and selling more every year, so what the hell is post metal?

Its basically just a metal-genre that incoporates a whole load of extreme metal genres (Black, Death, Doom and Sludge etc) and mixes all this in with ambient sounds (a dominant aspect) also there is the use of synths as well. At times it sounds similiar to some of the ambient and progressive metal bands out there. If you want to listen to a great post-metal band I heavily recommend Neurosis.

The lyrics also tend to deal a lot with scientific themes such as biology (Giant Squid, ISIS), Astrology (Rosetta), Metaphysics (The Ocean), and then branching off into existentialism, philosophy, and social critique.
