Favorite hard-rock/metal covers!

Simply add any other covers, as in "songs that weren't originally wrote by the band mentioned", and describe why you like them either the same as the original or more/better than the original. Also comment on if you dislike any of the covers that either I or someone else puts on their list.

I'll put a list of some of my favorites here that I recall are covers.I'm almost 100% positive that all of these songs actually are covers, but if either I or someone else has put down a song that is an original instead of a cover discuss that as well.Have fun!

Do they cover the Judas Priest "Painkiller" or is it some other artists "Painkiller" you're talking about? Also, do they get Halford to sing on it or is it simply Death with no "guests"?

It's Death covering Judas Priest's Painkiller with Death's Chuck Schuldiner on vocals.

Oh god I love that cover - it's possibly my favourite ever and I like it more than the original. I just love Chuck's insane screams - and also the fact that Death added an extra guitar solo.

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-09-2006 10:54 AM

Judas Priest - Green Manalishi
Voivod - Astronomy Domine
Motorhead - Motorhead

Those are the only 3 songs I can think of that I think are better than the originals.

spincer182 10-09-2006 12:37 PM

Rage Against the Machine - How I Could Just Kill A Man
lostprophets - Cry Me A River
lostprophets - Reptilia

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-09-2006 01:16 PM

I just think they did it better thats all.

I think the Jesus & Mary Chain`s version of Vegetable Man is better than the Pink Floyd version too but they`re not a hard rock/metal band.

enemyat_thesix 10-09-2006 03:38 PM

Didn't Botch cover 'O Fortuna'? Or am I going crazy...

Sounds cool, maybe I'll D.L. it now.No matter what though, I'm pretty sure I'll prefer the original because most of the time the original is the best, but who knows?I'm D.L.ing it specifically for that reason. If I remember, I'll come back and tell yall what I thought, cheers!

Oh just because I dont spend my life sitting on forums and chatting about music must make me a "chump". Great another 15 year old boy who thinks he knows a lic about music. First off it doesn't matter if God made a song and covered it if the SONG sucks then it's a bad cover. Just because its a doors song doesn't mean its automatically great. So next time you think you know something keep it to yourself cause you dont. IDIOT. RAP MUSIC IS AN OXYMORON!

Great, you give me more of your stupidity to point out:

1. "just because I dont spend my life sitting on forums and chatting about music must make me a "chump"."

No, your arrogant opinion of either Snoop Dogg, the Doors or both make you look like the chump that probally has a collection of nothing more than one variety of music and is too afraid to try new things. And why does your sentence end with a period?Weren't you trying to question me...lol?

2. "another 15 year old boy who thinks he knows a lic about music."

Are you talking to yourself again, chump, because I'm not 15.I, most likely different from you, have already graduated high school and obviously one who already graduated high school back then is older than 15 and more mature than you. Also, you spelled lick wrong, kiddo.Who knows, maybe you were referring to the nasty condition growing in your hair, but whatever?Adding to that, I am not only highly accomplished in the study of music, but I have also played for, most likely, more years than you've been alive.I started out mainly playing guitar, yet had a true passion for the drums, seeing as how physical and intense I am.I have become quite adept at playing guitar (both rhythm and lead, but mainly lead) and have been even more passionate about the drums over the years, focusing that as my main instrument.I've also played bass and other instruments as well.I know more about guitar, drums and music than you've learned over your whole life, period!

3. "First off it doesn't matter if God made a song and covered it if the SONG sucks then it's a bad cover."

First off?Quit getting off on yourself, ya wacko! Also, don't use the Lord's name in vein because he punishes weak fools like you!The Lord knows that you are blind to the truth and therefore have no "true" say on whether music is good enough.Especially over an accomplished musician like me, period!:usehead:

4. "So next time you think you know something keep it to yourself cause you dont. IDIOT. RAP MUSIC IS AN OXYMORON!"

I respect Snoop Dogg for giving the song a "new" sound and staying true to it's original intent, while keeping the original recording still there.Rap is crap, whatever, it's been said again and again.Does it make you happy if I say that ALL rap is crap though?Like I should give a damn about what an incompetent imbecile like you says anyways, chump!

Obviously I'll respect your opinion, but I'm sure it's most likely influenced on which band you prefer.Hey, sometimes covers are better, but only to some, not to all.

I enjoyed Metallica's cover of "Die, Die My Darling" by the Misfits. I'll probably get bashed for this but I enjoyed the cover that Atreyu did of Bon Jovi's "You give love a bad name". (I think thats the title.) Haste the Day's cover of "Long Way Down" (originally by the Goo Goo Dolls) was good too.
