Yeha i'd say there pretty technical, Alexi Starpoli must take up half of the tracks when there recording with all his orchestral work, oh and the orchestra themselves.

If they had a good songwriter, then god forbid they are perfectly able to play good music, and play it flawlessly, as long as they don't try to wank it up, of course.
They clearly are talented musicians, anyone who denies that is a fool. |

Techicality isn't based on speed. I can play Dragonforce on the piano. It's a very basic chord progression simply played fast. I like Dragonforce but they are no where near a "technical" band

They still are more technical than a lot of other bands. They can sweep, finger tap, and do many other techniques. Of course there are those who do it better, but I would still consider their use of them pretty skillful. They certainly have simple solos on a chord progression level but on an overall level, its hard to say that the solos are nothing. Plus their use of other instruments together in their instrumental bridges ( and keyboard and bass solos). They might be overrated to most, but I stand by the statement that they are technical.

Saying they are not technical at all is a bit much, you don't always have to play very complex chords/scales to be technical, as precision is just as important. |
