Red (R3D) is another Christian alternative rock band out of Nashville Tennessee that is starting to gain recognition.
The lyrics are actually just more on the positive side than they are traditional gospel. I believe Christian rock and metal bands are currently in their golden age. To me it seems a lot of modern metal bands are trying to evolve a sound and style that appels to a more mainstream audience.

Metal, alternative rock, whatever.

I actually wasn't trying to suggest their genre, I was more or so suggesting that they were mainstream.

They are definitely mainstream. I used to be real into christian rock when I was around 13-14 and Skillet/Red/Flyleaf etc. are on the radio all the time.

I know Skillet credits '92s christian rock band POD (Payable On Death) as one of their main influences. I actually never thought that a Christian rock band would ever make it again as big as POD did with the mainstream during the 90s.

Can we not mention POD in a thread with "real rock" in the title?

I know the thread started in 2006, but the OP needs to be more constructive on what he means by real rock being dead.

Also it's an opinionated thread, so what is considered real rock or not is up to the individual. Personally I'm still finding great music today in rock.

Skillet is one of my favorite Christian Rock groups. Favorite album from them is Collide, but I like everything from them, all the way back to their s/t album. I have to say that their last two releases, Awake and Rise didn't really appeal to me terribly much...just too 'safe' sounding. I did like a few songs from both of them though. Skillet is not Metal though. They've ranged from a sort of a Electronic stylized rock on earlier releases, and these days have a more symphonic stylized hard rock sound. Not really a true symphonic sound though, but close enough.

I like Red as well. Haven't really ever been disappointed by them. Their second album, Innocence and Instinct is still my favorite from them. Great stuff.

And yeah. Let's not talk about POD haha.

Everyone all of a sudden pretending they are too good for POD when I bet they were rocking out to a few of their singles in 2000.
