biography
Flatlands create dark emotional and crushingly heavy music. The band have already made waves in the underground scene, touring hard with their unique brand of post-metal via doom. Merging the stripped down, elemental feel Neurosis and their ilk evoke on record with the painful torturous listening that is Khanate Flatlands sound is nothing but their own. Their originality was paid tribute early in their career by having the legendary Super-Fi Records releasing their two demo tracks on one side of a 12" with fellow experimental doomsters Sunshine Republic.

Recording their debut EP [due out Oct 16 on Sound Devastation Records] has been somewhat of a grim experience too - fitting some might say for the type of music Flatlands create. With a drummer fracturing his wrist only weeks before recording was planned the EP looked doomed to be pushed back. However, luckily doctors advised that drumming after a brief hiatus would be the best form of exercise and rehabilitation a wrist could have. The band are finishing up in the studio soon, and the release should hopefully be out before the group begin touring the UK and Ireland on the 20th October.

Your label is full of pretty music. I'm ordering the Aotea album this weekend because I finally found me some monies and I can't wait for your other releases. These guys are pretty cool [Red Paper Dragon is my favorite off your label.]

awesome, cheers! we're going through a bit of a phase at the moment.. signing loads of bands with every penny we have! some releases obviously wont surface till mid-07 though.. so keep a lookout.

we've just signed another band (surprise surprise!) they're called From the Sky and are a stunning, epic post-rock band from London. you can listen to them here.. we're getting moving on this immediately so the EP should be out by the end of the year!

RAR - we havent actually received the full EP yet! try the media player on our website, and on our last.fm page, the track should be up on both!

Flatlands

Inspired by the British countryside of Lincolnshire and East Anglia, Flatlands' debut EP 'Vemuyden' (the guy responsible for the man-made landscape) combines music and digital photography to create the image of the grey, monotonous yet beautiful flat lands of the Fens.... the six track EP strectched over 35 minutes and is made up of doom and ambient/drone soundscapes, interspersed with beautiful melodies and even a rather haunting sample from the fen's tourist board's website!

if you are disappointed with the new Isis album or gutted about Khanate splitting, you need to check this out! if not.. check it out anyway :)
