But RAR did you not just say before that it's completely grounded in hip-hop? Then why the hell would it be called NU-alternative? Alternative have their roots in rock and metal, not in rap and hip-hop and it's not true saying that anyway because in alot of hip-hop they rarely use instruments that are used in rock/metal eg:guitars, drums etc where Slipknot clearly do use these things as well with very similar vocals to most metal (Besides the smooth flow of rhyming).
That's just my 2 cents |

RAR, why did you argue about this so long? You tried too hard to classify the genres when the basic purpose was to say who had the best scream. Just because metal is in the thread description doesn't mean a 2 page argument on what bands classify has to be made. Edit: I'm not taking a side because StoneMagnet perpetuated it, but it wasn't relevant to the thread. |

Snickers.

I'll sum what i was saying up before i go to bed
1. Nu-Metal or whatever, is grounded in hip-hop. But calling it hip-hop doesn't really work. I don't really know what to call it but garbage. 2. Snickers, shut up, it was a healthy debate. You're turning into EDGE 3. MJ is correct |

StoneMagnet, even if it was relevant to your quote, it's not part of the healthy debate to debate what it is to be a bigot. RAR, I'm not being like Edge, arguing genres in this type of thread just looks stupid when you have quote point 1 pt. 2 pt. 3 running down a page. Just sayin' |
I would actually consider grunge to be a genre. But as far as all of the discussion about labels, there are too many currently. Rock probably has 200 sub-genres, along with metal, alternative, etc. Tool is usualy labeled Progressive/Alternative Metal. AIC...in the 90's....was labeled as Grunge/Metal.
Music evolves. People may not like it, and I can think of alot I don't like, but what is currently fitting into one genre, can change over time. I think we can all agree that the bands being talked about, are some of the greatest. Note: (No one has to reply saying something about my 200 genres comment. I am merely exaggerating to get my point across.) |
Pantera not a metal band now?
 Honestly ... Kids today |
A sh!tty metal band,but nonetheless a metal band

I think she was reffering to my genre post. I guess there is a way to have to post back with that comment....although I was sure there was no way a person could miss my point. Guess not. Anyway, I'll say it one last time.
Yes bands can change genres. Not Pantera, and I seriously doubt you were that clueless about what I meant. If you look at bands like, Guns N' Roses, Kiss, Iron Maiden, and Metallica, compare them to todays "Metal" genre. They were considered metal back in the day....now Kiss and Iron Maiden can almost be considered Classic =)). Metallica which I love, has been anything but metal lately. They could be labeled as Hard Rock, but probably nothing more than that. I figure most people will agree with me on that. So hopefully that cleared up, what I meant. Get it? Got it? Good. |
^ urban is a he LOL,
anyways can this apply to growlers? |
Woops....my bad =)). And by growlers, do you mean on the mics? Examples Randy Blythe of Lamb Of God. 90% feel Metal is more oriented to these kinds of bands these days, so that's the whole reason I posted this.

Next time I go album shopping in London remind me to ask where the southern groove rock with thrash element section is. |

Haha...... well I think Chad Gray from Mudvayne and Mike Patton (when he does) have the best screams.
|
I'll agree with that. I like Mudvayne.
|
Nah, mudvayne can't scream.. try some swedish Tech Death.
|
My favorite are the vocalists from:
BTBAM August Burns Red End Of Eden His Irate Life The last two you'll have to check out for yourself. Sweet stuff. |

Wow...just wow. I didn't think you could get to be much more of an ass. If you get so worked up about what anyone says I don't think the world can handle how you react to something someone does that doesn't agree with you. And I'm oh so sorry that I don't posses the knowledge that you do. If you're going to be an ass about something be an ass about something smaller than something someone believes is their pick for a topic with the limited knowledge that they posses. Oh and you're a mod aren't you? You should be leading by example and not being a bitch to everyone. *leaves thread* |

The guy from Meshuggah |

Stop being such a tool. Job For A Cowboy embodies the terms "trend" and "gimmick" giving them credit for anything is bull****. And I can get worked up over things like this. Because bands like JFAC come into a scene and bring with them all these little trend hoppers that end up killing a big part of it. It happened with emo/screamo with hardcore and metalcore and now it's starting to happen with the more Death and Grind side of Metal. And I'm oh so sorry I happen to defend things I like. I'd be more than happy to send you some albums by some good bands. Bands that use the vocal style you like (God knows why) but actually do it right and don't wear girl pants. |
lolz! I never said I liked Job for a Cowboy you noob. I just said the vocalist eats faces. If you want to look at it as though they kill the actual "scene" go ahead, be pesimistic. When you could be optimistic and see that they are the gateway drug for that type of music like green day. Also I know nothing about how they are trend. It seems that all you get on here for is to point out all the wrong doings that everyone does in your eyes. Nobody really cares go do something productive with your life. And again you're a mod lead by example. Like not getting in an arguement with someone that is oblivious to what you are talking about and promoting what you consider good music. Oh and rise your loathing for scene-sters or hipsters only proves that you have to set social and mental blocks on certain things because it doesn't fit in your world. And there is no need to call me a tool, everyone is a tool in a sense but I'm not going to get into that. You're a tool as much as I am but should it be pointed out. I'm going to go about my oblivious way and finish this album and go watch some Family Guy.
and there's no need to reply, because i won't carry on in this petty arguement. |
It's no arguement. It's fact.
Eats faces? What is that supposes to mean? and I would see them as a Gateway drug. If it worked. But all these kids who jock bands like them aren't interested in the music. It's all a fashion show for them. Which is why I hate scensters. We all have our gateway band. I did. But the key is listening to it for the sake of listening to it. Not because you want people on Myspace to think you're hardcore. Dude. Don't even tell me about "my world". I am the only kid where I live who listens to 90% of what I listen to. Music may show who I am but I get along fine with people who have different taste then me. It's the internet dude. Learn to not take things so seriously. |
Quote:
Haha seriously, I agreed with him because JFAC does quality squeals, and they actually have a band to go with it. |
Quote:
and lol Ethan. I can see what you wrote. Just so you know, I am a jock. And I am an elitist. Oh well. |
