Plenty of albums that break this rule for me, but in general I like an album to be shorter. I legitimately like Deep Purple even more just because they've released thirty minute albums with only seven songs on them. Easy to digest in one sitting. So a ten minute album is fine by me.
I don't mind 10 minute albums, I just wish they were longer because you get more value from a 20-25 minute album. Playing 2 albums barely even makes up the length of one normal album. As far as exceeding that length, I really don't care. I can listen to the same artist for as long as I'm awake in a day if I want. I've done that, where all I've listened to was a boxed set, and that doesn't really bore me or bother me at all, as long as the music doesn't suck.

You should see me on bandcamp, I make sure every album I download is at least 20 minutes long, I check through all of the songs and skip through the contents quickly to see if there's anything unique/worth downloading about them. I don't even bother listening to EPs unless the music is exceptionally good, and the length should still be more than 10 minutes.

Well, you should check out the new Gridlink album then because it's a whopping 22 minutes long. It's also really good and has a lot more variety to it than a typical grindcore album—so you should check it out too, Batlord.

Yeah, but is there really any need for a grindcore album longer than ten minutes?

Well like I said, it isn't really something that needs to be, but a preference. I don't really care what the genre is, not too sure what would be different about a grindcore album.

I think this difference is that a band like Gridlink packs as much composition into ten minutes as most bands pack into forty-five.

I guess, but most bands suck. Either way, all the more reason to have a 20-30 minute album. It's not as if it's literally lasting as long as a 90 minute album.

Longer albums literally give you more value, so IMO more length is always a better thing. After that, it's about the actual quality of the music. It ain't rocket science or anything. It's a pretty basic concept IMO. If you combined Amber Grey and Orphan, would the actual quality of the music be affected in any way? I don't think so. It would just be easier to get all 21 minutes worth of music.

Until then, I'll just listen to Amber Orphan.
