Mudhoney

If we already have a thread on them I can't for the life of me find it.

Awesome grunge band. S/T is a classic. Bruise, if you don't already like them you should check em out.

bruise_violet 07-19-2006 09:40 AM

I love them :D

Rabid Sea Turtles 07-19-2006 10:03 AM

Could you tell me some of the better songs on March to Fuzz.

Urban Hat€monger ? 07-19-2006 10:57 AM

Loved Touch Me I`m Sick

Hated everything else.

m_thomp 07-19-2006 10:59 AM

Overblown is the cleverest song they wrote.

In 'N Out of Grace, I Have to Laugh, A Thousand Forms of Mind, Let It Slide, Touch Me I'm Sick, Good Enough, Beneath the Valley of the Underdog, and on the second disc there's a couple good covers, like Pump It Up.

Merkaba 07-19-2006 03:09 PM

I like these guys quite a lot. I only own All Good Boys Deserve Fudge but wouldn't turn down the offer to own some more. Great band.

tdoc210 12-23-2006 11:08 AM

love them, i have some early singles

Alo 12-23-2006 02:02 PM

Used to like them, it's been a while since I gave them a proper listen.

gottaSCREM 12-30-2006 10:22 PM

gottaSCREM 12-30-2006 10:28 PM

Sparky 01-02-2007 07:23 PM

i think they're okay...

i like they're cover of "the money will roll right in" and touch me im sick...

everything else sounded like normal grunge

gottaSCREM 01-03-2007 01:44 PM

Normal Grunge is what makes Mudhoney, Mudhoney:) Touch Me I'm Sick is a great song but their are alot of great songs that are real grunge. Are you saying all of Mudhoney's regular grunge songs suck?

no im just saying, when im feeling in the mood for that genre-they're are far better and more original "grunge bands"

i still love mudhoney when im feeling po'd, and i think they're great performers-they just don't stand out as being anything better then an average grunge band.

[MERIT] 01-04-2007 06:43 PM

Didnt they have a cameo in the Chris Farley movie "Black Sheep"?

Ok I understand and happen to agree with you if your in the mood for another REALLY grunge mood Mudhoney isn't the band to go to but none the less a great band. If you want real Grunge check out Green River, Some Velvet Sidewalks, and U-Men.:hphones:

Merkaba 01-05-2007 02:49 PM

I need to get me some U-Men, I've heard a bit about them, they sound promising.

gottaSCREM 01-05-2007 03:59 PM

You should, sadly I can't give you lnk to listen to their music because I don't know of any site that might have it:( . The only site might be Amazon.com but you only listen to 30 seconds of a song.:(

SumoKowal 01-05-2007 07:13 PM

Anyone see them when they came to NY a few months ago? How was that show?

gottaSCREM 01-05-2007 08:27 PM

Dude I wish I could see them, But their shows are either too far away or I have no money to see them. Check you tube they might have something about that show.

I heard this song in the movie PCU and loved it. I'd have the music video on the special features of the DVD on A-B replay. I bought March to Fuzz and was disappointed because the song sounds different. I think I'll probably have to get the PCU CD. What do you guys think, do you think it sounded like it's another version, maybe?

5-Track 10-25-2009 09:50 PM

I've seen Mudhoney 3 times ... once at the Sunset Tavern to raise money to build a skate-bowl in the Ballard neighborhood. This was a fun show, and all their original friends and fans from the area came out. Tiny, packed room. New material sounded good, band was tight. Only drag - sound was terrible. Too small a room, though a very cool venue in general.

Once opening for the Melvins at Seattle's Showbox, a Melvins 25th anniversary show perhaps? Concentrated on their "hits" and more famous tunes. Alright but not great. Big room, totally packed.

Once at Neumo's, on Capitol Hill, also in Seattle (I lived in Seattle for about 7 years). That show was AWESOME. For one thing, Neumo's has great sound. A good system plus a high stage and high ceilings, and it's not too big or too small. They JAMMED IT OUT. Long instrumental distorto-guitar duels that worked on my (sober!) brain like pterodactyls fighting up by the roof. Everything I could want in a rock-n-roll band. It didn't matter what the material was, they expressed it all admirably. Strangely: this room was NOT packed, did NOT contain all their old buddies, was NOT a high profile show of any kind. It just ROCKED.

loveissucide 11-04-2009 04:33 PM

I think they started out fantastic, with Superfuzz Bigmuff and the early singles that come with it phenomenal stuff. Sadly once they signed to a major they started to go ff the boil in a big way, anyone agree?

Queen Boo 06-13-2011 01:51 PM

Their self titled is ace other then two or three filler tracks.

BastardofYoung 06-13-2011 02:16 PM

I love Self-Titled, "Superfuzz Bigmuff and Early Singles" will always remain my favorite though, even if that is kinda cliche to say.. but "Touch Me I'm Sick" changed my opinion on music and opened me up to so much, though Nirvana was my more listend to band, Mudhoney always remains my favorite to come out of that scene.. the above mentioned song to me sums up what grunge is all about, and gets my vote for best grunge single of all-time.

I also really love "Tomorrow Hit Today", which is probably one of their most underrated albums, may not... not sure, don't hear enough people talk about it to know.

But one of my faves from them came off that record.

remember it from "Black Sheep" KILL WHITEY!!!!

BastardofYoung 06-13-2011 02:21 PM

oh, and Green River was also pretty great.... though as people from Vancouver, they will most likely say, meh... poor mans version of Slow.. but whatever, i love both of those bands.

first heard this on the "Screaming Life" compilation that came with the picture book of the same name, at that time I didn't know it was a cover and thought it was all theirs... and it blew me away as well.

the original bad who did it, for those on here who may not know it:

studio version can be found on both "Young, Loud and Snotty" and "Younger, Louder & Snottier: The Rough Mixes", the latter is my favorite of the two, but both are classics that belong in any essential rock collection.

Unknown Soldier 06-13-2011 02:25 PM

I never cared that much for them and always thought of Mark Arm as the least talented vocalist from the big 5 grunge acts that came out of Seattle at that time and the group to be the least talented also. Maybe it was the heavier emphasis that they had on punk that put me off. Apart from the Superfuzz Bigmuff EP they only ever made two good albums "Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge" and "My Brother the Cow" The S/T debut sounds like a flat battery!:D

BastardofYoung 06-13-2011 02:28 PM

I agree in regards to the self-titled. I love it, but it does have sort of a flat production. As for the albums, "Piece of Cake" is also great, it takes some listening to though, it was not my favorite on first listen, but became great to me the more i allowed it to grow.

Yeah I love their self-titled, no shortage of great songs on it. 'This Gift' is probably one of the best things the band ever done but songs like 'You Got It' and 'Here Comes Sickness' are nearly just as good.

Green River were a great band, although still very sloppy and rough around the edges compared to Mudhoney. Some of their stuff was more punk-sounding but they played a huge part in the development of the Seattle sound.

For me this song is the sound of grunge starting to take shape:

BastardofYoung 06-13-2011 02:59 PM

i wish somebody would reply to my Slow thread, listen to "In Deep" which is on side 2 of "Against the Glass" in the video I posted it starts at 6:53... let me know what you think, I have as I said met tons of people from Vancouver who say Green River is a poor man version of Slow, who I know Mark Arm has said was a huge inspiration on them... even though both of them released their debuts around the same time, Slow was around before them, starting under the name Chuck and the F*cks and SiSo before changing their name to Slow... Green River even played with them over the years as well as at Slow's farewell show.

If you like grunge, and wanna hear the roots of it, you will not be disappointed with them.

Queen Boo 06-13-2011 03:02 PM

I've listened to Mudhoney's discog a lot but I feel like I don't know it well at all.
They're pretty decent at writing love songs, moreso than most grunge bands. Shit like "In my Finest Suit" and "By Her Own Hand" is genuine without any sap.
