Mona Soyoc is my favorite female singer. Also like Dagmar Krause, The Vivian girls, La luz, Gravy train and The Shaggs.

Well, I was going to go back through the thread and see if they'd been mentioned, but only had to go back a few posts to discover this thread has been dormant for 8 years.
So I know Haim hasn't been mentioned. These kids are really good. They're poppy, but they have a rough edge you won't hear in their 'radio playable mainstream' cuts. What I like best about them is they're legit musicians, playing all their own stuff. And it's not all basic chord stuff. There are some impressive intricacies going on. There are some bass lines that are just sick. Also, I don't know if it's because they're sisters, but their harmonies have a real organic, base quality that I really like. (I'm a harmony junkie to begin with) |
