I don't know if they can really be compared... I mean they arn't in the same genre, Static-X is industrial and System of a Down is Nu-Metal. I mean, they both have strong points too, like Static-X has a good vocalist while SOAD has a crappy one. But then I like the lyrics by SOAD more. So I really can't pick between them, it'd be like asking what band is better AC/DC or Blink-182...

Lol. If SOAD is Nu Metal then Phish is Grindcore.
I think like them or not, they are a unique band, which is one reason why trying to determine their genre is nearly impossible. Some consider them prog metal, and i have considered adding them to my reference list on the prog thread, but i dunno for sure if that would be a good idea. |

Soad prog metal? Right and I'm the dead pope.
I don't know who though of that but with prog metal I'm thinking more of the lines like ayreon or dream theater, marillion and stuff. I would say melodic rock. It's not really metal anymore since their last couple of albums. Ow and serj... while vocally the guy is great but lyric-wise. God almighty does he suck. I mean I don't know about you guys but I've had enough of all those politically based lyrics about war and ****e. As for static-x industrial is about right as for the genre. I do think the guy's is a good singer and lyrics are by my taste not so bad although sometimes a little too emo-ish. and musically it sounds pretty good I really like the electronic effects. they remind me of mnemic. So I would prefer static-x over soad. But they are both great band with their own good stuff and bad stuff. they are way too different to really compare them. And what is with this thread and people giving an opinion without explaining why they think that. just get a good opinion... |

Welcome back Don.
And what kind of f*cking term is melodic rock?... Did you just make that up?... Sounds like the ultimate oxymoron, also it makes no damn sense, rock is music and music has melody... So isn't all rock melodic rock? Oh yeah, and Dream Theater sucks. |

Yes I did just make it up. I consider rock a softer metal and seeing that soad can't be called metal anymore. It's more like rock.
And what you're saying about rock is music and has melody... well wat about metal metal is music any kind of metal is music so I'm guessing doom metal is melodic as well? You might wanna think through before you post something like that. |

Don... Who do you think you're fooling with this?... God forbid you won't lost long before getting banned again, and if you don't, i will be very concerned.
And doom metal IS melodic yes.... Type O Negative have a drone like approach, but they are melodic nonetheless. But then again you will call me a dumbass, and of course you think Dream Theater are the most melodic and passionate band in music... Go figure. |

Actually boo boo You seem to have me mixed up. I'm not this Don you speak of . I just signed on like last week for the first time of my life.
My name is Dax Pegels I'm from dordrecht in Holland. And I don't like dream theater I just said that WHEN I think of prog metal I think of bands LIKE dream theater. And I actually do agree Type O Negative is very melodic and I like them. so before you go mixing me up with someone else you might want to ask who the heck I am. |

Ok, i'll take your word for it... But i have trust issues, i'd still like to propose an IP check, and of course you wouldn't have a problem with this if you are indeed who you say you are.
