It's a close call between their self-titled and their sophmore effort, but the self-titled doesn't take itself as seriously and is more jubilant and thus is more enjoyable for me. Toxicity is still great though.

I used to really be into SOAD when I was about 16, I remember buying the self titled album before anyone knew who were they were as a blind buy when it came out.. do not know why, just looked interesting to me. Now I find them kinda laughable. They are in terms of politics no more than a poor mans RATM.

Self-titled I may put on sometimes for nostalgia sake though.

I think Daron came up with some decent riffs, especially on the first album.... but Serj gets on my nerves to much, and I can not stand their songwriting. I find it to be too "quirky" for it's own good.

Toxicity, listening to it now... just doesn't hold up for me as being the great album I thought it was when it came out. Once again, some good playing.. but not a fan of the songwriting.

They just don't do much for me anymore.

I like the song B.Y.O.B. the best because I take it as a commentary on the U.S.'s crazy and unjustified wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Rob: How can it be "bullcrap" to state a preference????

A vague and uninspired one, but i suppose it is.

"why do they always send the poor" is nothing groundbreaking, I think even a kid who knows nothing about politics even asks that question.

That is to me about the extent of their politics.

Good riff on that song though.

I remember the first SOAD song I heard was 'Sugar' and I really didn't know what to make of them, they were the craziest thing I'd ever heard at the time. It wasn't until they released Toxicity that I started to get into them and they ended up becoming one of my favourite bands as a teen.

My favourite song would probably be 'Spiders'

"Spiders" is one song by them I actually still do like.

I know most people favored "Mezmorize" more than "Hypnotize" but I do not know. "Hypnotize" does have "Lonely Day" which i haaaaaate, but it had the ti,tle track, which is one of the best songs they did, "Holy Mountains" is a pretty good song and "Kill Rock n Roll" is kinda cool. Personally I think those 3 songs are better than all of "Mezmerize".

Probably my favorite song by them though is not a heavy one:

They are touring. They are playing in Edmonton tonight actually. Which is 90 minute drive from here.

I saw them on the "Mezmorize" tour, with Hella and The Mars Volta supporting. I personally liked the opening acts better. SOAD were alright, kind of boring stage show though. But were pretty tight in their playing.

They are not bad live, but nothing special either.

Hella blew them away that night. I even met Cedric from The Mars Volta by the side of the stage during their set, he was pretty cool.
