Which decade has the better music? (quote, history, clapping)

60s-Hendrix,Rolling Stones,etc. One of my fav. styles from this era would be, The Temptations,The Five Heartbeats,etc. (R&B/Vocal Bands). 70s-Yes,Queen,Rush,Bad Co.,etc.-Steely Dan,Earth,Wind,& Fire,Average White Band,The Isley Brothers,Funkadelic,The Brothers Johnson,Rick James,Ohio Players,etc.(R&B/Soul). 80s-Dokken,Krokus,Skid Row,Cinderella,Ratt,etc. Tears for Fears,The Cure,Duran.Duran,etc. 90s-Nirvana,Soundgarden,Alice In Chains,Smashing Pumpkins,Live,Stone Temple Pilots,etc. (Present era) AudioSlave,Velvet Revolver,Seether,NickelBack,Puddle Of Mud,etc....

Well, you started off strongly in the 60's, took a bit of a nose dive during the 70's with the Isley Bros. & Funkadelic redeeming you somewhat, deteriorated with the exception of the Cure in the 80's and then completely lost it in the 90's.

Tragic.

Otis Redding-These arms of mine, One more day(not sure about the song titles)? Everything that 'Smokey Robinson' did/does. All of Marvin ***e, A few by Al Green. Thats off the top of my head. I like alot of everything....Peace.

I've realised I haven't voted yet.

Every decade has something of substance to offer and there's arguments for all of them, but I personally feel both the sixties and seventies take some beating.
Both infinitely more diverse and groundbreaking than the others by comparison. At least in my opinion.
The sixties developed and shaped the way music is today and the latter end of the seventies gave it all a kick up the arse.
My age probably colours my view, although I'd like to have been born 10 years earlier and had a more conscious awareness of the 60's.

Can't choose between those two.

The way I look at it is when you do pick a decade, you're writing off all the other ones, so you're basically saying that the limited output from that one decade is better than all the rest of the music you enjoy, which I could never bring myself to do. So I refuse to vote.

How is it writing the rest off? Thats faulty logic. Saying you liked the output of one does not mean you dislike the others.

I'm not saying picking one means you dislike all the others, I'm saying that the choice here isn't as simple as say pick between the sixties and the seventies, because in that case if you voted sixties it would simply mean you prefer that output to the seventies. In this case, however, when you pick the sixties you're essentially saying it's better than all the other ones combined. In my mind, at least.

When you say "you", I take it you're not referring to me in particular?
I agree with the point you made. It's one of the reasons I still haven't voted yet and probably the reason I won't be.

The only way I can approach the choice and remain honest, is to generally weigh up all the decades individually (if that makes any sense), without picking out individual favourite bands etc.
Which leaves me with the 60's and the 70's.
And choosing between those two is even more of a problem than eliminating the others.
