I'm going to have to take the stance that this decade is the most musically creative. While I have a tremendous appreciation for the progression made in music within the past 5 decades or so (the introduction of new genres and such), it seems clear to me that the more you have to work with the more creative you can be.
What we have in this decade is artists creating music based on years and years of knowledge about the largest variety of influences ever seen. The ability to take electronica, rock, soul, hip hop, and all the other kinds of music, and meld these into genre-bending tunes has produced UNLIMITED possibilites. "Older" music (oldies and classic rock, in particular) will probably always remain my favorite "kind" of music, but some of the new stuff of the 2000's is absolutely enthralling and exciting. Long story short, creativity to me is not simply saying "Wow, I've never heard anything quite like that before". Rather, it's being able to say "WOW, I never knew music could DO that!!!" And this decade's music has given me more of those moments that any other.
