Default The Libertines/Babyshambles/Dirty Pretty Things Official Thread

So I've got The Libertines-Up The Bracket, their self titles album and Dirty Pretty Things' debut album. So I guess you could say I'm a big fan.

In my opinion, Up The Bracket is by far the best Libertines album. Although their second album was good, it is way too overrated and overshadows their phenomenal debut.

The Dirty Pretty Things album is good, and definitely goes back to the UTB new-wave Punk roots. Barat is the true talent behind The Libertines. Forget Doherty.

Up The Bracket is one of my favourite albums ever. It gets grows on you more and more and it just gets better and better. I personally really like Pete's vocals on that album (although now he sounds like he's trying to go reggae, not a good move) , i love the way the songs sound like they've been taken in one take, and i love the way there seems to be so much more passion than other bands.

The second album is brilliant but its more overproduced than the debut, it loses some of its charm. Still awesome though.

'Down In Albion' i'm torn with. I can SEE how it could be a brilliant album, but it isn't, mostly because theres too many songs and i think the songs are bit overdone. Its best to search the internet and find earlier versions of the songs, i've got versions of 'Sticks and Stones' and 'Merry-Go Round' which are awesome.

Same with Dirty Pretty Things, good songs but the production doesn't help them at all. They're really great live though.

Personally i think Carl and Pete aren't anywhere as good without each other.

Pete's vocals are better-they have more of a charm to them and are grittier than Carl's. I meant that Carl is overall the better one. He is a better musician, he is heavily focussed on the music and when Pete was allowed to take the reigns more on the second album it all went downhill. Plus, from what I've heard, DPT are better than Babyshambles. Up The Bracket is very much Barat's album, while The Libertines is Doherty's...

Its hard to tell, since theres so much speculation on who wrote the Libertine's songs, they say Doherty/Barat but Pete says he wrote a load of them himself. I wouldn't rush to believe him, but still...

Carls definitely more focused, and easily a better musician technically, but DPT's stuff is also pretty generic, 'Down In Albion' has its own style.

I think because I'm such a bit Libertines fan I was glad that DPT's album was basically The Libertines of old. It didn't do anything new, which was slightly disappointing, but it had the whole 'Up The Bracket Part 2' vibe about it that some hated but I loved.

I like Dirty Pretty Things a lot.
Their sound is pretty much the same as when they were the Libertines although now they're one member less.
At any rate I like their songs Dirty Little bastard and Bang Bang Your Dead a lot.

It's not Dirty Little Bastard it's Blood Thirsty Bastards. And I might buy the Babyshambles album soon...
