Can't say I ever thought of Bowling For Soup as alternative.

Alternative rock would probably be something like Julianna Theory.
Some people think of Linkin Park as alternative. And I guess The Exies would be classified under alternative as well. Not too sure about that one though.

Alternative rock is a term i usually identify with bands like My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Flaming Lips, etc... Since their music is you know, an alternative to something.

I can't stand it when someone calls Creed alternative.
