Greatest Band? Whos yours?

Okay ppl - who would you say is the Greatest band that ever graced the Music Industry?

Jman67000 07-10-2004 08:51 PM

The misfits

Epitaph 07-12-2004 01:59 PM

Even though I'm not a huge fan, I think Dream Theater is the obvious choice. I mean, Petrucci and the drummer... gah... Only drawback is that their kind of boring at times. Another choice I think is Smashing Pumpkins. They weren't slouches instrumentally, the lyrics were great, the songs didn't all sound the same, and Corgan isn't a crappy vocalist.

Have To Be Red Hot Chili Peppers

Jonah 07-15-2004 03:26 PM

I tip my incredibly pimp hat to you David Frost.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Red Hot's are a good one. Completely revolutionized new music. And just kick ass.

Smashing Pumpkins were a good band (and you're right about all that you said) but I wouldnt call them legends or anything.

I might lean towards someone like Queen. Or perhaps Rage Against the Machine. Imagine seeing them live..

I'm going to go with The Mars Volta. They are absolutley insane.

thederacinator 07-17-2004 05:02 PM

Every band has a bad album... unless they only put out one.

For this reason i have to say interpol.
Perfect album Turn On The Bright Lights

However, you didn't say it had to be metal or rock, even though it is in the rock and metal forum... Why was that anyways? Shouldn't it have been placed in General? Just a thought...
And they do suck live... but what do you expect?

Pit-Bull84 07-18-2004 07:52 PM

Alice In Chains

IamAlejo 07-18-2004 10:08 PM

Rolling Stones

Drifting_Angel 07-19-2004 01:24 AM

The Chilli Peppers and the Foo Fighters for me. Well, modern ones. I'd mention classic rock but there's too many :band:

riseagainstrocks 07-19-2004 02:59 PM

Well the way you posed the question makes it hard to answer so I'll divid eit up by genre.

Old school rock: Led Zepplin
New School rock: Edguy or Fireball Ministry
Hardcore: Either Zao or xDISCIPLEx A.D. both are legends
Emo: Taking Back Sunday most original emo band around
Metal: In Flames or Dark Tranquility

franscar 07-20-2004 06:23 AM

Pretty much every band that makes music these days is ripping off Led Zeppelin at some point and in some way. They were incredible.

IamAlejo 07-20-2004 10:26 AM

That was a good choice. Haha, Boston is another good older band. Guns N' Roses. There's bunches.

franscar 07-20-2004 11:09 AM

Everyone loves Fleetwood Mac as well, they made some fine tunes in their time. Last album was woeful though.

gdroxandunoit 07-24-2004 06:19 PM

jibber 08-01-2004 08:17 PM

ok, this is going to be pretty long, so bear with me. For one, I have to give credit to the Beatles. I've heard so many people say that the beatle's are overrated, that they're songs are simple, no lyrical content, no challenging guitar riffs etc etc etc. These kind of ignorant statements are exactly why I feel compelled to say exactly why the Beatles deserve credit as one of the greatest bands of all time. My reasoning basically comes down to this; they pretty much single handedly changed the course of music forever. First off, look at the music scene before they arrived, you have frank sinatra as the most popular recording artist at the time. Now look at what the beatles did. they alone broke out f the mold, and in my mind were one of the primary creators of modern rock. Every greatband after them had other bands to feed off of, to gain inspiration from, the beatles had no-one. Another common claim is that the Beatles lyrics aren't very meaningful. If this is your belief, you either haven't listened closely enough or to enough songs, or you just don't understand them. I've had a lot of very lengthy, in depth conversations about beatles songs, one of them about how Eleanor Rigby is a metaphor about the declining control and respectibility of the church and the monarchy in england (Eleanor Rigby, initials the same as Elizabeth Regina) or how the real meaning for the song let it be is a dedication to lennon's mother who came to him in a dream of his at one of the darkest time's in his life. The Beatles had some of the most brilliant lyricists and musicians of all time. McCartney is pure genious for being able to play his bass lines and sing at the same time, and Harrison was made a member of the Travelling Wilburys because of his incredible talent.

After the beatles, zeppelin and jimi hendrix need to be recognized, but they generally are acknowledged as musical gods, so I won't need to explain why I'm mentioning them.

As for music today, there are too many to name. I have to name thrice, Teppei Teranishi is absolutely unbelievable, plus they can really write. Other bands with great lyrics, brand new, finch, the list goes on and on.

AmyLeeFan 08-24-2004 09:00 PM

Auf der Maur. You can convert her music into a classical piece, and that's a good thing.

hi

Junior Saint 11-09-2004 09:19 AM

This is a tough one because there's so many great bands, you can't quite name one.

For revolutionising the world of music, it would have to be:

The Beatles
Sex Pistols
The Shadows

For the best band in the world it would have to be:

Led Zeppelin
Iron Maiden
Red Hot Chilli Peppers

Does anyone agree with me???????

Han 11-09-2004 09:27 AM

No, I'd say greenday personally.
