Considering how many albums they've sold, the odds are pretty good that you have in fact met Pearl Jam fans in person. They just keep a lower profile these days than they did in the 90s.

I understand your point for respecting bands for trying to play music, but I can't respect bands that don't try to improve. Like, say, Slipknot. They suck, but I respect them for their improvement on their last two albums (Now all they need is a better singer and I may even like them). But alot of bands don't try to improve. They keep spewing the same **** with only minor adjustments if any to minuscule things like what tuning they play in, or how much gain they have on their guitar, etc.

I understand it, though; if I had no musical values and was looking for some quick cash, I'd form a 4-piece pop band and play nothing but power chords and sing about how I never had a girlfriend/had a girlfriend but she broke my heart/other *** ****. Wouldn't have to work at a crappy job for 40 hours a week making $8.50 and hour. Why do you think Mick Thompson and Joey Jordison, two members of Slipknot who have great potential, stay in such a crappy band?

Assuming your a fan of death metal, I really don't understand how you can dislike a band if they don't try to change. You do know that death metal is one of the monotonous genres of music ever? Bands like Bolt Thrower, Suffocation, Brutal Truth, Arghoslent, Dismember, and countless other death metal, grindcore, and brutal death metal bands have stuck to the same formula very successfully. And, generally, a band that is considered a "sellout" band is called one for changing their music, not keeping it the same, as you probably already know.

Improving doesn't necessarily mean changing their style. Cannibal Corpse have been death metal from the beginning and still are, yet you can hear a significant improvement between Eaten Back To Life and Kill.

I consider a sellout someone who makes decisions, music or otherwise, that involve throwing away their own principles in order to make a hefty profit.

I've always disliked CC so I really wouldn't know about their improvement but I understand what you're trying to say.

Bands I love to hate:
Opeth.

On the contrary, anything after the Hammer Smashed Face EP is pretty terrible. I'd agree with hearing improvement between Eaten Back To Life and Tomb Of The Mutilated, but after that you can hear a drastic decline.

Yeah Opeth just bores the **** out of me. I don't enjoy any of it, and believe me, I've tried. Edge of Sanity, Aker****e, Pan.Thy.Monium over them any day.
