Les Claypool may be a very gifted bass player, but his music doesnt do anything for me. Its the same with Flea and RHCP, I feel they both try to over complicate bass licks, just to show off...

That is true, but when every song has a complex bass line, kinda gets a bit much
EDIT: And it all comes to sound the same after a while

I`ve never really got a grip on Primus , they just don`t appeal to me.
That song they did with Tom Waits was OK though

To me, they are just elevating the role a bass guitar can play in a song, it can be more than just a bassline, it can be the whole riff. Flea and Les aren't the first of their kind to make the bass a big role in a band though... Especially with all the funk bands, who put more emphasis on bass than guitar. |
