Progressive Metal/Hardcore

Anyone a fan of this type of music? I'll admit - I'm not - of most anyway. Much of it sounds like disorganized noise to me but I respect the musicians because much of the time they own bigtime. I do like Mastodon however, which I'd call more stoner-metal if there is such a thing.

Here are a few more of what I mean:

Psyopus
Car Bomb
Mastodon
Dillinger Escape Plan

Man, what's the deal?!!! Prog metal is exclusive of hardcore. Prog metal is Dream Theater, Pagan's Mind, Circus Maximus, Evergrey. Prog metal pwns, hardcore isn't even worth paying out. What are you doing to me?!

(I think DEP are okay though).

I'm a fan of prog metal, especially Dream Theater.

^hmmm....thats a hard one. i like both, but i dont know which one i like better.

this will probably be the first and only time i agree with don...but i have yet to hear a progressive metalcore/hardcore band.

I think, the term is "mathcore" or whatever. I think the whole genre is complete bullshit and Dons logic is basically "i like prog but not hardcore, therefore no hardcore can't be prog". Well the Fall Of Troy are a hardcore of sorts and they're pretty damn progressive.

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 04-21-2006 02:35 PM

^thats true. i didnt think of that. "mathcore" sounds like a ridiculous genre though...

mosesandtherubberducky 04-21-2006 02:48 PM

all it is is Math rock + Hardcore. What is so surreal about that?

Nope, mathcore is grindcore except some bands in the catergory (converge, dillinger, etc..) begun to be called mathcore because they had more complex musical writings and were tended to be more organized.
