Well, I am not so sure Elvis belongs on the list. To be sure, he was an icon, but his musical impact had long since been over, and had evolved for 20 more years at the time of his death. When Elvis passed away, he wasn't relevant anymore, musically. I'm not saying that to dump on the guy, because I love Elvis' stuff.
That being said, I have often wondered how Jim Croce's music would have evolved, had he not passed away after such a brief career. He wrote a lot of wonderful songs in a short period of time. My boy, Stevie Ray Vaughan was just getting his life back together when he was taken. I don't recall anyone mentioning Janis Joplin, either. I've always felt sorry for her. I think she was a sad person, and if just one person in her life had loved her just for her, she may have been around for a lot longer. A lonely soul, and it comes across in her music.

I almost mentioned Morrison, but thought it would hypocritical of me to do so, since I don't think he really did much for music. Some view him as an artist, but I always thought he was just so-so.

Which is what seperates him from Lennon, Cobain, Tupac, etc... So i'd say their death's were more infamous. Besides, everyone knows Elvis isn't really dead. |

He's still one of the biggest icons in rock, and rightfully so, Morrison was all about the attitude, something that too many musicians lack today. |
