haha.. are you making fun of me hehe.. :banghead: haha..

Stone Magnet 03-05-2006 08:26 PM

I tried listening to them but the vocals ruined it for me.

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 03-05-2006 08:28 PM

i heard that the origins of that band name are some strange comic that claudio sanchez writes. so i did a little research: read this.

apparently, coheed and cambria are the characters in a story, and all of coheeds albums tell this story. kinda interesting i thought.

also, up until 1999 when they replaced their previous drummer with josh eppard (current drummer, then of the band "3") they were known as "Shabutie". (which means "naked prey" or something along those lines.)

i enjoy coheed. theyre not something i'd listen to non stop for days, but i like most of their stuff. i like the way they combine a lot of different styles of music, and originality definitely works for them.

explosions-in-my-pants 03-05-2006 08:32 PM

i like your random coheed facts...

umm i'm kind of the same way.. but i love this band.. only i know i can get sick of them really easy, and i don't want to so i choose not to listen to them that much.

Laces Out Dan! 03-05-2006 10:12 PM

Ive been listening to them for 2 days straight:)

explosions-in-my-pants 03-05-2006 10:17 PM

when i first got into them i couldn't get enough of them i loved them so much i always had to listen to them.. but i new i loved them so much if i continued listening to them non stop i would get rather sick of them, and i just hate getting sick of good bands.

Laces Out Dan! 03-05-2006 10:22 PM

well see ..... same thing happened with me and TMV but it didnt happen because i listened to each album and EP roughly 3 times each every day for about a month straight...i love them as much now as i ever have

I absolutley can't stand C&C. Well I hate all emo crap obviously, but lately some noobs have been telling me to get into them if you like prog and I was all rofl, I listen to prog that's actually good not like emo-prog.

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 03-06-2006 09:40 AM

^they are far from emo crap.

sorry but, no.

ladyluckrules 03-06-2006 11:00 AM

I have kids come up to me thinking they're
underground or emo because they're listening to coheed and cambria.
Sorry to re-instate my point but I just really hate this band,
'tis therapy.
They're so naff....and teenyboppy.....and pure crap to me
....bah humbug

Mr Sensitive 03-06-2006 11:10 AM

HELLO? Their music video for "The Suffering" features a centaur saving a mermaid from a sea monster!

I hope I am not the only one who realises how stupid this band is.

Muzak 03-06-2006 02:31 PM

Emo would possibly be the last genre I would think to put Coheed and Cambria under.

DearJenny 03-06-2006 05:42 PM

my first post:thoughts on CoandCa

Yeah, Coheed is not emo AT ALL. Emo started out as a hardcore term for emotional music, it started out deep. Newer bands and their fans have tainted the term by calling it emo. I dont mind some of the new bands, but its when they, or mainly their fans, begin to call it emo that pisses me off.

But, to the point of the thread, my friend introduced them to me about a year and a half ago and up to this day I still hate Claudio's voice with a passion and I want to cut his hair. I saw a picture of the band and he had short hair, it really wasn't bad. But the music they create is great. Guitars are amazing(I believe they have 2, claudio and another, correct me if I'm wrong). But there are better bands out there.

Mr Sensitive 03-07-2006 10:36 AM

That guy has got the right idea.

explosions-in-my-pants 03-07-2006 11:14 AM

wow that dude really didn't let anything slip.. But! i don't agree with the three different grenes that he thinks are mixed into one to make this band.. i can't even say what type of music i think coheed are.. they just are!

but i guess i did come out learning something.. i am in fact a nerd.. but i think i always kind of new that...

boo boo 03-07-2006 02:32 PM

C&C have none of the elements of emo, except the nasaly vocals and the primary reason for that is the Rush influence.

Sweet Jane 03-07-2006 03:18 PM

I thought they were one of the best bands of that genre (whatever that genre may be... what I mean is they're not easily categorised into indie, folk, blues, rock, funk, d'n'b or anything I listen to)

But yeah so then I went to see them live and they just didn't do it for me.

Has anyone else had this experience?

boo boo 03-07-2006 03:50 PM

C&C are like a combination of metal, prog, punk, alternative, pyschedelic, pop and every other genre that has ever existed.

One of their albums has this weird intro, sounds like Beethoven.

Plus the classical influence is evident in the prog influence, most prog bands have classical influences.

i do se your point.. its strange that a band can have the sound of so many types.. but yet i'm still unsure about where i think they might fall... pop sounds like a safe bet..

Every rock genre has its pop influences, even prog, Yes were greatly influenced by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, The Byrds, Mamas And The Papas, Burt Bacherach, Frank Sinatra as well as Tin Pan Alley and Ragtime music, which were among the most popular genres around before Rock N Roll came along.

Punk too, i remember some punk bands listed The Monkees and The Archies among their influences. :D
