Although Soundgarden is totally awesome, they are not metal. Just hard rock, or if you want to really stretch it, you can call them grunge (only because they are from Seattle).
Marilyn Mason got some heavy riffs, but he's just goth rock.

It's not a stretch, they are true Grunge. Actually one of the first, if you have the Deep Six compilation it has the first 4 or 5 grunge bands and it included Green River, Malfunkshun and guess who?....Soundgarden.

Ya I understand. But Soundgarden may have started off as grunge, but their whole style is wrapped up in "Rock" ... grunge is just too sloppy. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the occasional Nirvana or Alice in Chains injection.

Regardless, metal still rules. Too bad this thread is only limited to top 10 bands, 'cause I got another couple of dozen bands that I'm into big time.

Well the artists had no intentions on sounding polished. It's sloppy and fuzzy, and distorted because they wanted it to. But if you call Mudhoney sloppy, your nuts.
