I listen to metalcore, and so does _ALOT_ of other people as well.

Of course I can see theres a world of difference talent wise between the mentioned. But I still prefer Nickelback to Nirvana, that's just my choice.

Its no surprise then, that Somebody who prefers Nickelback to Nirvana. Would also use the ridiculous analogy, of comparing the hate that metalcore receives, to that of the far more serious matter of racism.:bonkhead:

Not all metal is technically good either. One of the most influential metal groups of all time Venom were very poor musicians, but are considered a major influence on both thrash and extreme metal genres, probably making them one of the most influential metal groups of all time.

If you like Metalcore who cares what other people think about it? I certainly don't need anyone to validate what I listen to. It would be nice to be validated but I'm certainly not going to get my self in a twist when people don't like what I listen to.

ChrisCata 07-18-2010 02:52 PM

I don't give a rats ass what others think about my choice of music. I just thought I could shed some light on just why I find metalcore charming and enjoyable.

Ridiculous analogy? Not at all. Just 'cause racism is a far more serious case, doesn't make less relatable. Good thing you think it's similar aswell. ;) There's a general opinion from a lot of old punkers and hardcore punkers saying metalcore is bad cause it isn't hardcore or punk. This also goes for the people more prone to listening to death metal and/or groove/trash metal, perhaps also black metal. They "hate" 'cause it isn't technical enough, doesn't have the attitude, is too simple, too cheesy. So what? Obviously a lot of people like Coldplay, The Beatles and The Beach Boys - all sharing the fact that it's **** simple music (besides from Coldplay, who basically steal their best songs).

You don't really know a lot about music do you? I hate to point it out and give you a hard time but it's true.

You don't give a rat's ass? cool beans. So why produce another paragraph about music you obviously know nothing about. Bringing Coldplay into an argument that is about music so far removed from the genre it's unreal. BTW it's THRASH metal NOT Trash Metal (although some would argue the case).

Metalheads have always been dumb idiots with a blinkered view of music so I take their views with a pinch of salt- that is unless they listen to many genres and know what they are talking about and can back it up with well reasoned arguments.

As an old git who has listened to metal for 25 years I will say that Metalcore is generally crap and an affront to the genre's it has spawned BUT if YOU like it then enjoy it. This is also someone who took a weekend out of his life to watch Lamb Of God even though they are not the most respected band :D

I'm sorry mate, but here you're mistaken.

Sorry about misspelling Thrash Metal, didn't mean to offend (if you were). :)

For mye part, I listen to metal (most genres, except black metal), classical music (Nobuo Uematsu, Back, Grieg and Beethoven), blues (Chuck Berry, Stevie Ray Vaughn), classical rock (Lynyrd Skynyrd, CCR, Queen, Aerosmith), and house music (Dave Darell, Klaas, Farius and Finlay). So as it goes for musical diversity, I'd say I make "the cut".

It's Bach BTW. So why only reply in your own thread and not proffer views in the myriad forums on MB? if you love many forms of music then you SHOULD accept other peoples opinions surely? Argue a little and state your point but your stance is that everyone is wrong with their views and you are right.

Many replies have stated their love of Hardcore and sometimes even being around when it hit big and giving informed opinions but that doesn't seem to be enough fo you.

When you constantly oppose any views that don't fit in with your own then we immediately smell a rat. I am not doubting your sincerity regarding the music you like BUT we are not all a bunch of douchebags dissing on the genre for the sake of it. We know what we are talking about and even if you don't like our views at least respect them.

ChrisCata 07-18-2010 06:15 PM

Of course I respect your views, and if I have been disrespectful towards your views I apologize. Not my honest intention.

I accept others opinions, of course, but solely tried to stay right on topic on why metalcore is blindly hated? If you hate metalcore for sincere reasons (dislike the music for what it is, don't like the sound, a.s.o) - ok. But disliking an entire genre for completely hopeless reasons is somewhat wrong. If I, in my attempt to find a uniting conclusion have give the impression that I don't give a ****, then I am sorry.

This, however, is not correct. Though is it still a possibility that I have worded myself in a bad way - english is after all not my native language.
