sleepy jack 02-03-2006 08:28 PM

That was very good, nice job merkaba.

Scarlett O'Hara 02-03-2006 10:23 PM

Wow that was really well done, I really like the fact that although the Beatles were well talked about, The Rolling Stones were given basically equal credit for different reasons.

I think these threads were a very good idea.

Laces Out Dan! 02-03-2006 10:27 PM

Who needs a passage on prog rock when you can have a whole thread.

I wouldn't steal boo boo's thunder.:)

Laces Out Dan! 02-03-2006 10:49 PM

I guess....Thanks for being considerate :)

boo boo 02-06-2006 01:18 PM

Fantastic job.

I dont think i have ever heard of medieval rock though, unless bands like Blackmores Night qualify, because i think they are very "medieval", probably the most medieval sounding band i have ever heard (Yep, even more medieval than Jethro Tull)...But i will check out those bands you listed, havent heard any of them.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-06-2006 02:17 PM

I need to write me one of these skicky threads I feel left out :(

MercyTribe 02-13-2006 11:11 AM

Why label? It's all music, I don't care what genre it carries.

But interesting nevertheless.

Darkstar 02-20-2006 04:52 PM

Its interesting to travel the net and met new and diverse people. The one thing that I have noticed is the lack of Australian bands on the international boards.

with the exception of AC/DC there is little known of the Australian Hard Rock Bands of the 70's and early 80's

Bands like "the Angels" were an Australian revolution and even toured with a little known band called AC/DC in 1975, it was malcom and angus and bon scott who got the angels their first record deal with "Alberts" and produced by Vanda and Young.

first single was a classic called "am I ever gonna see your face again" which is now a classic pub rock anthem.

other bands include Cold Chisel with Jummy Barnes as lead singer though I think the world knows more about Jummy than Chisel. Yet a Chisel song "Khe Sahn" was voted australian song of the millenium.

that said its great to learn about the overseas bands that are not released in Australia as well.

great thread.
hope to learn more

Yeah, I was born in Australia - but now living in NZ. I agree, Cold Chisel is never recognised - but on a side note, I think Forever Now is their best song. That is probably in my top 20 rock songs ever.

I guess INXS is Australian too.

Darkstar 04-13-2006 07:30 AM

I agree, Khe Sahn is a good song but I prefer "Flame trees" and Australia will claim any band as long as its a success. we claimed crowded house and Split Enz, even though they had a funny accent.

and dont forget AC/DC is an Australian Band

Doc.DGAF 04-27-2006 10:21 AM

Wow...that was excelently written, yet mind numbingly long. I had to stop twice to smoke.

Merkaba 04-27-2006 04:29 PM

I swear I pissed about 4 times during the course of writing this, had 2 main meals and did an hour and a halfs exercise somewhere along the lines just to keep the commitment.

ArmyofMe 04-27-2006 08:06 PM

nice...
didn't include any death metal or anything that-ish, but VERY nicely done none the less

Doc.DGAF 04-28-2006 06:34 AM

Well props on the effort.

good job, thats all i need to say.

Tourniquet-x 07-03-2006 09:14 AM

Just to add some bands...
Gothic rock: Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Sisters of Mercy, (some) The Cure.

:)

Unitedbyrock 07-08-2006 08:59 AM

A great review and well worded. One band I think deserves a mention though is Budgie. Not the most revered in terms of Zeppelin etc but up there musically IMO. Hard, fast chunky riffs and amazing tight musicianship. Their influence spread as far as Metallica etc...

marcwb17 08-07-2006 07:23 AM

gosh, some people can write

Wow, I've never actually read that before.
I was bored, and I now feel enlightened.

Well written, Rick. Props to ya for taking so much time. ;)

Do you write English papers, Also?

Merkaba 09-05-2006 03:39 AM

Haha shit no, I expend myself only once a year on such master pieces;)

Envy 09-07-2006 05:31 PM

Thanks! I'm that lil bit closer to understanding what the heck my band play now!!!

Mama Booze 10-01-2006 08:32 AM

This is wonderful! I have a few suggestions for Psychadelic Rock...Janis Joplin & The Doors...Janis could also be classified as blues rock though, especially when she was with Big Brother and The Holding Company.
Really great non the less, Merk :D

tanay 10-07-2006 12:19 PM

futman 01-01-2007 02:59 PM

Trully much to learn, first thread reaten.

Im a fan of Metal apsecially Goth Metal, thanks to the threat I learnt about my favourite Gener. What I cud probably learn from reading the lyrics and the meaning behind the songs. But now I can see clearly I was right while guessing.

Nice job really.
