Guys, just drop it..This is an opinion on who you think had the biggest impact, not what emo is or a nirvana discussion. I'm going with the beatles.

It's near impossible to say anyone other than the Beatles had the biggest impact. You could argue which bands have greatly influenced popular music and some bands might even surpass the Beatles in influence over other musicians (I'm thinking like the Velvet Underground for alternative, Black sabbath for metal etc) but the Beatles sold more and created more of a phenomenon than any other band.

What band didn't start off on an indie label?
And the point is, you can argue for Nirvana all you want. They didn't bring about any great musical revolution, and they weren't the first grunge band like many people try to say. There were a ton of bands doing it before them. And Nirvana wasn't even the best at it. Every kid has their "OmG N1rV@N@ is Th3 roxxors" and I am suprised that boo boo hasn't grown out of it. Kurt Cobain was an average songwriter. If you disagree, post some of his brilliant lyrics. They don't exist. Dave was the only redeming member of Nirvana, and look what he has become. He puts out second rate pop music.

And who has Nirvana influenced?
The disgusting wave of shite alternative bands

Nirvana's had an influence on more than just ****ty watered down alternative rock bands. Like boo boo said Radiohead've cited them as an influence and I know sleater-kinney have been, not to mention the general bunch of garage rock bands of the early 00's. Even if they hadn't been any sort of positive influence music, they made catchy pop music. They never claimed to do otherwise, in an interview Nirvana said that they made songs like children's songs, they're so catchy they'll stay with you forever. Brilliant lyrics are a matter of contention but there must be something for critics to point to the band as having great lyrics. Not to mention Bob Dylan himself upon hearing a Nirvana song said of Cobain that he had heart.
