Hmmm......

Most of your options suck too, i could name more worthy players for such a poll, in fact you left out a lot of technicaly skilled players for guitarists who arent very worthy, such as Kerry King, whos a very sloppy soloist, his rhythm playing is tight, but his soloing is very sloppy...And he lacks versatility.
Technial and composition is what I said...And I didn't list all the guitarists I like. Check out my list on page 4 and tell me who I should add if you like.

^ yeah Marty Friedman is one of my favourite guitarists.
it's really hard to decide because there are so many talented guitarists on the list. I'd have to say Petrucci.

Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not Zappa. ZAPPA IS THE BEST...

God, this is a HUGE poll ..

Chose Malmsteen ... very proficient, even if people claim he's "soulless" in his performances ...

You have Graham Coxon on that list, but not Jonny Greenwood. This makes your list irrelevant.

Besides. guitar solos aren't really my thing, I can think of nothing more horrible than a couple of moronic metal heads wanking to a 5 minute guitar solo.

Absolutely, listen to Dimebag, hes not a bad soloist, but his real skill is in his rhythm playing.

Robert Fripp is a solid rhythm player as well.

I assume the main reason is your obvious bias against Radiohead.

The guy was a f*cking student in theory, hes a classicly trained musician and multi instrumentalist, other than guitar he plays violin, piano, organ, xylophone, synthesizer, harmonica, glockenspiel and the ondes martenot...He may not be your Steve Vai type virtuoso, but in terms of technical ability, hes more worthy of the poll than half of the guys you chose to include.
