And everybody's guitar playing owes a lot to the person who invented the guitar.

Honestly, how many more ways can it be played? Everybody learns from the people before them. if you loved it, you might take some influence and put it in your music. If you hated, you might take some influence and keep that style away from your music.

I don't think you can really say what "Influenced" anybody but yourself, and I guarantee you're not even aware of every single thing that has influenced you or your music.

Jeff Beck is one of my favourite guitarists. I'm not sure if anyone would consider him the "greatest" guitarist, but his contribution to blues rock, heavy metal, and jazz fusion is not something to go unrecognized. Beck was one of the first guitarists to experiment with distortion in the 60s. He mostly uses his fingers and the whammy bar on his guitar to make different sounds, and doesn't rely heavily on electronic effects (but uses the wah pedal often). He has also played with a number of notable musicians, including Kate Bush, Stevie Wonder, Roger Waters, Mick Jagger. Beck was also asked to join bands such as: The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd but declined.

Many. New methods are being used all the time.

Taking inspiration or even stealing licks is one thing, completely ripping off a guitar style is another. Yngwie Malmsteen is a good example, I don't think anyone has as many clones as he does.

That is true.

Personally I prefer Miyavi if it's on guitar.

Talking Eric Clapton

Hey Guys
Yeah they're awesome guitarists ay but what about Eric Clapton he's awesome too ay. This is a hard question because these are all awesome guitarists but they're awesome in their own style of music so they're kinda hard to compare but I really like Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix.

Cheers

Clapton is God

I've spray painted it on several walls and one school bus.

I agree with you 100 percent. In fact, I think I will take it a step further and say that Rothery is a much better technical player than Gilmour. Of course, this probably shows more in Steve's early stuff with Marillion.

And I don't mean to talk down about Gilmour either, I think he is a fine guitarist, but I wouldn't consider him one of the greatest.

I also want to throw in John Mitchell ... I think the guy is great.

Dave Gilmour is damn underrated guitarist. The Time solo is flat-out amazing.

^ Spoken like a true Scouser.

As for Clapton, he's not fit to re-string Hendrix's guitar.
